Bishop is great, he's probably the reason I've always enjoyed the second movie more than the first. Him and Hicks. I still ship Ripley Hicks.

But yes, Bishop. Bishop is a synthetic (he prefers artificial person) aka an android and perfectly played by Lance Henriksen whose strange face is almost perfect for a robot (no offense to him ^^) He's got these wide round eyes and this sharp nose... there's something vaguely artificial about him... the makeup and eyebrows helped of course. I've seen him in other stuff (namely AvP ^^ Squee cameo) and he didn't look as abnormal... still different though. He has a unique face.

Aside from Lance's face, he also figured out how to get into an artificial person's head. Bishop is not fueled by emotion or morality like a human, but he does have a sense of self. He knows what he likes and doesn't, and gets excited about the work he's doing. He's the humblest servant always thinking of his human comrades before himself, following orders only up to the point that they are inconvenienced, then he's willing to place their safety as a priority over everything else. That makes him a very sympathetic character to me.

My favorite part of Aliens is when Vasquez hands him the gun in the pipe and he looks at it reproachfully and hands it right back out. I also love that scene at the end where Ripley tells him he 'did good' and he was like "I did!?"... it was so sincere, like the little bit of personal worth he had was validated... and then a second later we've got endgame. So tragic.
