Just learned the full scoop of Gen4 using Gen4 Morph Pose Transfer (with the help of my friend, Dimension3D), and OMG (!!!!!) this program is so much worth it's full price. Seriously! Get it when it's updated and back in Renderosity, it's awesome!

I just converted Sabrina Blinker here (via Gen4MPT), she looks exactly the same in the body, and almost the face, which is slightly different, 'cause of the Victoria4 (the original add-on to Genesis from Daz3D), it seems her face is a bit younger looking then regular V4.2 (thus why I didn't do a nude version, just looks too young to me). I'm just so elastic about this program, it RAWKS!!!

I did do a side by side comparision with V4.2 and Victoria4 (Genesis), they look almost the same, except the Genesis version seems a bit younger, with shorter head as well... so...

I was looking at Sabrina's face, and trying different Genesis add-on face morphs in Genesis without disrupting the "Gen4" version of V4's morphs, and thinking about this... and an idea popped into my head. Since I was able to include Sabrina's custom head morph into Genesis, I'm gonna spawn V4.2's head and (if I remember how) make it into a pz2 (like any custom head morph), throw it into Genesis and see what that looks like. In my thinking, it still might not look exact, as the default Genesis has a face shape that you start out with already (just as V4.2 has her default face shape you start out with). But again, with the new spawned V4.2 head and Sabrina's head morphs starting out from that, it might work. I'll see what happens. If you know me, I'll get there... hehe

I now have a pose file for my adult, teen, and young Sabrina Blinker (head and body), but since Gen4 couldn't include Stephanie4's proportions (petite/short/stout which Sabrina uses), I will have to use "Basic Child" to shrink her down for the Teen and Young version, or maybe I'll find another way.

If I can make her face look alike without having to include V4.2's face (spawned, which would be illegal to distribute), I'm thinking of updating Sabrina and Tindra for Genesis (which will require Gen4 and you to convert V4/A4/S4/Elite and Sabrina's custom head into Genesis).. I don't think Genesis allows us to use custom head morphs like V4.2 does. Or I could be wrong?

Enjoy! Will try and get Sabrina's face corrected and do you guys a nice, nude version

If anyone has any tips for this process, please feel free to quote it here, and of course, critiques as always welcome (but please no rude comments)!

This render reminds me of a scene that I am working on. Victoria 4 is walking through a forest wearing a bikini.

I just realized that you and me have similar styles. We both do simple scenes of women.

Thanks a lot, nelly! I'm anxious to know what's going on under the hood myself hehe I did hear that you have to re-buy it rather then get a free update, but it may be worth it, who knows.

Your Welcome. Actually I am slightly annoyed that we have re-buy it because I think he originally said that owners would get free updates. But I also think that it was a steal at $20. If I have to pay a few more bucks for the update it won't kill me.

It would be more legitimate if we were to pay an upgrade price instead of full, but I'm not sure how he would set that up since he's gonna rename the product as well.

Hey Wolfie,

Nice image you have there

I don't know what really causes me problem here, but I have the impression the head is really too small... But after counting I come to about 8 heads tall, which is what most europeans would use to define a beatifull woman (me being more fan of Japanese animation, I tend to prefer about 6 to 7 heads). So it can't be that. After a closer look, I think the issue is the neck or the body... Anyway, I hope you'll find a solution for this

BTW, the smaller the head, the older one should appear. A child is drawn about 4 heads tall if I remember correctly and an adult is about 8.

You're very right when it comes to the head and how tall she is, Genesis/V4/V5 is still too tall (I loaded my V4 height prop) and the head proportion was at fault as well. Can't remember why, but when I fixed her (next render when I finish), I made the head bigger/legs shorter/body smaller (doing this with V4.2/Sabrina and Genesis/Sabrina side by side). It's gonna take more work to fix the Teen and Young morph as well. I think it would be nice if Daz gave us a "proportion" morph, to shrink girls to Petite/short appropriately, also better small boobs morphs where they're nice and perky rather then just... flatter lol.

Thanks so much, friend! Daz Studio4 (DS4, not just Daz, Daz is mostly referring to the company) is a bit to learn, but is a lot of fun if you actually like learning stuff (I always have fun learning new things), but even more so once you learned it and start playing with your toys Good luck and hope you succeed, friend!

Thanks, friend! Well, she has her look alright, but what I found out further was that her custom morph was applied 2x, which made her look more younger then originally with Genesis/V4. You'll see my next render... as promised... a nudey one

"...the script that used to work in DS2 doesn't work in DS3 and it's never been updated, I'll have to ask around"

PhilC is revising his Python scripts for Poser 9.
From what I understand, this is because of changes in Python itself, rather than the applications that use it.
He may be willing to share the details of the differences.

I don't have or can't afford Poser9, but it does make me wonder how to make custom morphs in Poser (I have Poser6). Thanks for the info, friend!

"...how to make custom morphs in Poser (I have Poser6)."
Big Topic.
I have both P7 and P9 but I'm disappointed in P9 so I've stayed with P7.

However, this is doable in P7 (at least at the "magnet" morphs level. In short, if you can dial up the image you want, then you can make it a permanently available "magnet" saved with that .cr2.

If you can't dial it up with the existing and available dials (external morph packs like V4++ count) then you need an external 3D modelling program

Nice work here wolfie ... it would appear that with DAZ going the Genesis route, it and Poser are parting ways for the most part. I've read that V5 will work in Poser but will lack much of the functionality it has in DS4. Guess I'll maintain my vigil to see which way the rendering breezes flow. LOL

Lookin' forward to the nice nude version and more about the DS4/character enhancements.

Thanks a lot, buddy! Daz and Smith Micro are still working together to get it done, it's neither one's fault, really, it's just a difficult process. But again you can't blame Daz for doing this new technology, it's very awesome and there's no disgusting bad bends in Genesis.

I don't think I can do V4.2's head in Genesis, the script that used to work in DS2 doesn't work in DS3 and it's never been updated, I'll have to ask around. But in the mean time, I think I'm gonna do a full side by side (V4.2_Sabrina next to Genesis_Sabrina) edit and get that look. Then I'll do the nudie

Would you be kind enough to resume in what Gen4 is superior compared to V4.2 with the right morphs (I mean, if it's okay for you, look at this mature-flagged image: [link] )
I've received the announcement from Daz for their Platinum member, and ~75$ looks like a big bang for my wallet, and I'm still not convinced.
As far as I remember, two big companies had tried in their past to keep their customers in a kind-of one-way: IBM with their PS/2 series and Intel with specific, uncompatible memory components have been commercial failures.

Thanks in advance

jamminwolfie In reply to Phyl-CGI [2011-11-02 02:27:10 +0000 UTC]

Actually the $75 is for V5, in which I regret buying (that part anyways, but didn't return it 'cause of the other stuff), she's nothing new, just a major big boobed with even more bigger boob morphs, with big hip, catered after those who like watermelon boobs and big boned hips with young faces. She's ok in the face, but her textures are nice.

Genesis came with DS4 (not sure about the free DS4), Gen4 (the program at renderosity) enables you to use V4.2 morphs on Genesis (V4 addon to Genesis needed but not required)... AND characters made for her (after transforming them sucessfully, if they came with custom morphs, then first "insert" them through Gen4, then you'll need to make the pose file through GenMPT).

Now, talking about the actual Gen4, I just loaded something you might want to look at. [link]

As far as the "two company" thing you mentioned, well, Daz is trying to work with SM, but I heard SM is not hardly lifting a finger toward their new technology (might be a rumor though). Daz can't just make Genesis completely compatible with the old ways, with all the benefits, it's impossible.

A big thank you for all these informations.
I was somewhat lost in-between because I'm Poser addict, and there are some morphs to add so that it looks correct in some extreme positions.
I'm really surprised by the fact that both companies seem to take parallel ways, and I have to think more about all that.
Once again, thank you so much

jamminwolfie In reply to Phyl-CGI [2011-11-02 03:01:20 +0000 UTC]

Very welcome, Phil! Daz is more customer oriented then Poser, as I've heard a lot of Poser people say SM and other who owned the company weren't heardly listening to customers, but wanted them all for themselves. They didn't even bother making V4 (and others, basically DS format character) fully compatible, as with the size issues were major, first you couldn't resize individual body parts without major distorts, then you couldn't use the baby version of Kid4, nor the freak version of M4. I think Daz changed something when Stephanie4 came out, with it's proportion, am not sure, but her different sizes worked fine in Poser. Now I'm hearing that SM isn't hardly lifting a finger in working with Daz, but people are rudely screaming "It's Daz's fault". Heck, if I were Daz, I'd be selling this new idea (Genesis) as well, whether the other company liked it or not, it's business potintial, even if it reaches only DS users (which there are a lot these days with DS advancing so much).

Both programs have done remarkable upgrading and coming up with new ideas, but Daz the company is the only one doing anything about trying to satisfy both customers. You never hear anything about SM doing anything for DS users, we still can't use any material options or anything from them, yet I bet people arn't screaming murder at them.

With Poser9, they have revisited and enhanced the interface, and from my point of view they seem to have wanted to enhanced the quality of what is rendered: the material room has some new functionalities that generates a *lot* of messages on RuntimeDNA, especially around one of Poser's material room gurus: Bagginsbill, as if the idea was to approach the quality of Max' renders, especially with human's skin.
Wait and see...
... and thank you, Wolfie

Very welcome, friend I almost got P9, but for what I would use it, and the fact that I couldn't afford it, even with the greatly reduced sale price, I couldn't justify spending that much and hurting my finance. I almost never render in that program and I'm quite happy with what DS can do (and with the addition of ability to use Lux via LuxRenderDS and Reality). Even my quicker renders are pretty much up to par.

I hear all the time that Baginsbill's shaders are so complex, hardly anyone can understand it lol, just not worth my time for what DS can already do really.

I started long ago with Bryce, then I jumped to Poser. I'm not a king of the material room, and I don't have Bagginsbill's mathematic knowledge, but it's really fun to play with that room.
Bagginsbill exposes its tries and explanations on RuntimeDNA's forum, but most of its "tools" may be freely downloaded from Bagginsbill's page
Until P9 and its new SubSurface Scatter material plugin, its VSS object let us do nices renders.
Now that there's the LuxRender Gem, and P9's new plugins, that's another story
Two examples with Bagginsbill's VSS tool and Poser8: [link] and [link] (nudity)
Fun and easy to use

Thanks wolfie ... I really hope things are worked out between Smith and DAZ. In the meantime I'm sticking with Poser because I like the SSS, IDL and the ability to import my light sets from HDRShop (at least in Poser 8.) Perhaps some enterprising programmer will write a script linking HDRShop and DS4 (or Poser 9) ... that'd be fun.

Thanks, again, for the info.
