Description It's been a long time I haven't submitted anything so here I am . This scene is probably inspired by some horror movie I've seen more or less recently, I don't remember.

The characters were posed with XNALara, the rest was drawn in Gimp — well except the glyphs, which were taken from Katie's screenshot scenery . I've found it's incredibly easy to draw a stone wall BTW: paint a uniform color then use a grunge brush that you shrink, for example, and dodge/burn with scattering on. Then dodge/burn the edges with a regular fuzzy brush according to where the light comes from (fluctuations disabled).

Dark Lace by Navid, gear rigged off by me.

EDIT: Woah! over 3,000 hits . That makes this picture my most popular one! Thanks a bunch to all of you!

______

For a change, Lara is beaten by her invincible alter-ego, whose powers have now increased. She's able to take anybody's vital substance when she's back to the place where she saw the light for the first time, fed with immortality from the Eitr. Natla's not there to tell her about her powers but she discovered them all by herself and now she's stronger then ever.

In a last chance fight, Lara tried to stop her . In vain. She was stabbed and fell on the ground, with her opponent maintaining her firmly. Her soul is slowly absorbed by her evil doppelgänger. Her body starts to decay as life escapes from this once fearless adventurer. Kurtis won't help this time.

So long Lara.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate. I've been long thinking about redoing that scene anew given how many people like it. I've always thought I could do even better on that one...

One word, well, name... IMHOTEP! I love the mummy and this scene reminds me of of when Imhotep sucks them dry

Very cool concept and beautifully done - actually reminds me of the dementors kiss in HP: Prisoner of Azkaban

First thank you so much for the faves and watch. I've added you to my watch list as well — should've done that earlier. Now this one's my most successful piece, judging from the number of faves and views, which was unexpected to be honest. I'm very glad people like it that much however. Maybe I'll redo and enhance it some day, who knows. I think found inspiration in a movie with Mathilda May, Lifeforce . «I think» because when I made this picture I only had that idea in mind. Afterwards I realized I had probably been inspired by movies I had seen much earlier, including that one.

I've watched that episode of Harry Potter however I don't remember that dementor's kiss. Will need to watch it again.

Thanks again for all your nice comments, faves and everything!

I only played Soul Reaver 2, so could somebody tell me, who that person is? ^^
(The one eating the soul I mean. Not the victim.)

Hehe, this painting indeed has nothing to do with Soul Reaver, the game. We got to know about «Soul Reaver» first in Tomb Raider Legend as a sword, which you can play with after completing the game. As you probably read from the description, the villain is Lara's Doppelgänger (created by Natla, an Atlantean goddess), which we happened to meet in the first Tomb Raider game but with incomplete "incubation" and revived, completely achieved in Tomb Raider Underworld.

In most drawings and paintings I saw in various TR groups, the doppelgänger is mostly seen as an allied, which seems quite likely to happen after you play «Lara's Shadow» and «Beneath the Ashes». I wanted something a little different. I sought for a couple of titles and «Soul Reaver» was the one I like most.

I see.

Ha, Doppelgänger, that's funny. I hope you know it's German for fetch ;D
(Even though dict.cc told me in English the word Doppelgänger also exists o_o)

JAMsEye In reply to Kasane1337 [2012-07-10 22:29:22 +0000 UTC]

Yup, I know it has German root but didn't know exactly what it means; I imagined doppel (probably) has "double" as a root and gänger probably comes from gehen. It's all I (think I) know . So thanks for the explanation .

'Cause I cant edit:

I meant to say "I see. Yeah, I played Tomb Raider myself, but I can't remember a weapon like this. But still good artwork ;D"

this looks oddly sexual..

Brilliantly done! I have no idea how you go about creating 3D stuff..

JAMsEye In reply to acjub [2011-05-25 09:20:53 +0000 UTC]

You know you're the only one who told me that . Not even I did think of it when I made that... (Note for later: underline «Naughty»)

Thank you very much. I know I can do better now. The 3D stuff is done with a cool application, XNA Lara , written by a Tomb Raider fan, Dusan Pavlicek (Hope I spelled his name right). All you have to do is pose the 3D model (rigged from the game) that you added to the scene and export an image from it. Do the rest in your favourite image processing application. There is a lot of editing here.

cool

JAMsEye In reply to acjub [2011-05-25 10:00:43 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely. Definitely. But best is to do the poses right then some post-processing, that's where all the fun starts. There are lots of imperfections (lighting for instance) to fix but it can turn out just great. Like this one .
