Description My girlfriend and I found this small Regal Jumper (Phidippus Regius) today at the park, it was very patient for photos.. Difficult to keep the flash out of his eyes -- held the flash far right of the camera -- but I think we kept the reflections to a minimum. Thanks to ~kelliec3231 for the extra hand.

...Marpissa muscosa? I looks far more like a Phidippus regius to me.

That does seem more accurate. I was unsure at first.. It was very small (around 8mm), flat, and slender.. But the bright chelicerae had me confused.

What extension tubes etc did you use and by how much did it magnify the 50mm?

I used a Makinon 2x teleconverter and a +7 diopter close-up filter stack. I wasn't quite at minimum focus, so this shot is somewhere around 2:1, maybe 2.5:1. I cover a this process in my journal: [link]

Thanks, I read your journal, that helps a lot.

I find with my point and shoot Sony H20 I can focus a few centimetres away compared to 0.45m and 0.4 to my respective kit and macro lenses on my DSLR. So I am going to keep going like that for garden macro stuff.

We don't have access to Ebay in South Africa, but I see a set of Kenko extension tubes for about half price on Gumtee. What would I have to do to get 1:1 on my 18-105mm lens? Tube set includes 12mm, 20mm & 36mm.
I am not sure about a macro filter kit - it will only work for one of my lenses and I don't know if they come in 82mm filter size for 24-70mm macro lens.

That’s a tough one to answer. It really depends on the magnification of your lens. The general rule of thumb is: To go from 1:2 to 1:1 you need to use the same length in extension tubes as you have in focal length of lens (50mm 1:2 lens would require 50mm of extension to get 1:1 magnification). Hope that helps!

@ flash doubts: Maybe you should make him little (and very special) sunglasses, for all of his eyes...

Dude, you never cease to amaze me with these great insect and spider photos! Wow! The expression on the face is great! It is really cool to see what all these little guys look like close up, your showing people a world they usually just walk right by and never see. Great job!
