The Angel

She was walking barefoot
Upon the shore,
The water lapping playfully
‘round her bared legs.
Was that a tear upon her face
As she gazed backwards,
Hope snatched away from her?
The cold sea reached out
To comfort her,
The sky wept in assuaging grief.

She heard him come
From faraway
His voice
The sweet tinkling
Of crystal fountains
Calling her from the darkness of night.

Far away,
Beyond the ends of the earth
Dawn rose upon the horizon
As she died in the Angel’s arms.
He flew off,
Carrying her to the sky,
The Seraph rising
Akin to an ascendant phoenix.

The taste of his kiss
Still lingered upon her lips
As she lay asleep
…a pale dream…
in the Angel’s embrace.
