Wow! I also work with pastel pencils... can i ask how you get that soft gradient for the water?

Hi,
I first make a very light hb pencil line drawing. Then I start with the background using big soft pastels, and blend the colors with my fingers. The pencil line drawing is still a bit visible through the blended pastels. I erase out the color of big objects until the paper is clean again (The turtle in this case) for a crisp result. I then put the detail in with smaller harder square conte pastels, which I sometimes sharpen with a blade. I also use a wooden bridge that sits just above the paper to lean my hand on so I don't smudge anything. Hope it helps!Β

Haha , ThanksΒ , I lived in the Fiji Islands for 13 years, (just to make you jealous!) While scuba diving I actually swam next to Β a leatherback a few times, they look solo peacefull .

Nice! I lived on Vancouver Island for 8 years(haha, take that jealousy) and NEVER swam in the ocean willingly. (Fell in a couple of times- really really cold) but we travelled to Cuba a few years ago and I loved it! You lucky duck you.Β
