Awesome work man, this reads extremely well from further away, very well done. Did you use default Photoshop brushes or are these from a downloaded pack? Great stuff.

Thanks man! I used a bunch of brushes, mostly from maciej kuciara and Hannes (algenpfleger), and some of my own.

This! Sometimes the use of textures and differently shaped brushes can come off as cheesy or "ZOMG FX!!" but this really works. I think the lighting is very realistic- not exactly optimal or dramatic, but realistic. Overall I think this would be something I included in a portfolio of digital work if I were you.

Now for the hard part- I would like to see you apply this technique to a study from a live model or an image off the top of your head- something where you don't have any photo references to match it off of.

And, of course, I eagerly await the day you post samples of traditional media studies!

Thanks for your response! That is indeed the hard part, incorporating things like this into work from observation or imagination, but doing studies like this definitely makes it easier. I'll see what I can do about those traditional media studies haha.

haha, yeah.

Now if only I could follow my own advice and apply techniques I use in traditional media using digital!

A lot of the best digital artists have come from a traditional background. Go for it!
