question: I heard in Tim Burton's movie that "the nerves were completely severed" so does this mean the joker can't feel pain anywhere? If this is canon it would explain how he's able to hold that wide a grin for so long at a time.

He is able to hold that wide grin for so long, because the acid deformed his face and the muscles in his face. In the most versions he isn't even able to stop to grin.
