Yeah...This is just a little big. Sorry.OH HAY GUYS HERE'S A THING.
This was my final project for my Adobe illustrator class. Three page comic with 18+ completed in illustrator. I cheated a bit by doing my lineart in Photoshop but the directions said we were allowed to use some raster stuff and there was no way I was going to do all that corn with the pen too so there.
This was...I. I don't even know.
I had to go from script to final in less than two weeks while also juggling four other final projects (Thank you art school) so I didn't have the luxury of redrawing something until I liked it like I usually do.
Regardless I think it looks pretty good considering I didn't know how to use this program 11 weeks ago.
But you know whatever. Aliens. Aliens are awesome. I don't even know where this came from (it wasn't Invader Zim don't even go there) But I kind of like these characters. I like the idea of aliens just wanting to visit Earth as tourists.
I think I may draw these guys some more.

Ahaha. xD Yeah, I did that last quarter. Typography, scriptwriting, english comp and drawing and anatomy... Not the best combination.
With the envelope tool, you basically make a pattern, select it and then form it to an object. It's pretty convenient since you can throw little wrinkles in it and everything, as well as changing the perspective of certain pieces when you're putting it on a 3D object.
I really don't like working in photoshop with gradients and crap. >.< The only time I really use it is when I have brushes, need to cut something out, or wanna make something all glowy. Other than that, I prefer illustrator for drawings and whatnot.

...by the way. When we get the chance, you're gonna have to show how to slap some patterns like that in AI. (Unless it's with the envelope tool, which I know how to do.)

...yeah. I can only vaguely remember what the envelope too is.
What I did was I had a layer with his shirt on it. When I was done coloring all of his shirts, I made the copy of the layer, selected everything on the layer, and then changed the fill to the pattern and fiddled with the layer modes and opacity until I had something I liked.
Like working in Photoshop, but a little more efficient.

Gweee. I'd love to see more single things like this; you manage the atmosphere so well. Living in a tourist town adds to the appreciation I have for this; not only do you get moments like this, you also get people asking for directions to things that don't exist (especially in my area, where everything has confusing names.)
I love how bored and irritated the short alien is, and how indifferent and clueless the tall one is. XD The expression in the second to last panel is spot on, too.

Eeee~! I'd reeeeeeally want to keep going with comics like this, I think I just need a bit more confidence. This project definitely helped, though so I'm going to try doing mooore. Knowing someone actually enjoys them is nice motivator. 83 Thank yew.
