This one reference was obvious, but if you compare Mystery Scull with Scoobie Doo. Scoobie Doo deal with fake monsters andΒ always have happy ending. Mystery Scull Squad deal with real monsters and their leader ended up killed by his friend while being possesed, only to lose hand, bitten off by Kitsune before it could overtake him. So yea, Mystery Scull deal with way more dark and dangerous stuff.

True, but even when they deal with real monsters, it is still mostly comedic. Though I think there was a season when Scooby Doo went into very dark direction, but my memory of it is rather scare.
