This is fantastic. The gritty, desaturated feel is perfectly done. Like a war zone, but your ironic, pursed smile gives it a different flare.

These photo's are fantastic! The red paint really makes it! And you are getting good with the depth of field and bringing focus to certain areas. That is something I always had trouble with when I studied photography in high school. I always thought photography takes a certain skill that I don't have, mainly because I myself don't do well with cameras (my final project, I actually filled an entire role of film with unfocused shots and badly lit photo's, it was embarrassing)
I also like the setting, the dark green shadows in the forest mixed with the red/orange burnt-umber of the face paint creates a nice contrast. (I am commenting on the series as a whole) In this photo particularly I can see green pigments in the skin tones, which play nicely off red face paint, and even the purple in the lips. To me it seems to use a triad of 'secondary colors' (green, purple, orange) How did you manage this sort of 'lighting' in the picture? It seems very... I can't think of the word.. raw? (I'm having trouble with the word, these pictures just have a certain look to them that is interesting to me, or at least I am not familiar with the technique)
Anyway, kudo's on a great, and successful camera shoot. You shall forever be known as Master-Chief-Guru Expert, of the Whispering Moon. (facebook reference)
My only disappointment is that the whole series is not on here for everyone to see!

Thanks so much for your comment, your words almost never fail to encourage me I really appreciate your friendship*
The reason why I didn't put the whole series up is because my dad told me that I look quite ugly in most of them (since I'm not a perfect barbie-doll, I never ware make up and never re-touch my photos, that's why they are so "raw"...and you can see all my ugly freckles, moustache and imperfections...what you see is what you get, my imperfections and all) So he said which ones were fine for Facebook but only facebook...not too many places else. (I'm not fishing for complements or anything, just saying )
lOl, my mom sais that every week I jump a level with my photography, she sais she's amazed at how from two months ago when I started, I've just gotten better and better . I love how supportive my parents are they make me feel so good about myself!
The setting of my pictures are actually in our backyard by a wall of bamboo...I thought that would work well, and all the photos were taken this afternoon, in the shade so the lighting was all natural . I love natural . There is no technique to the pictures, when I edited them I sort of made the red paint stand out and I also turned it into more of an orange all the other colours are more to the gray side. I also wanted a more rugged and dirty (like native, not the other dirty ) feel to the pictures because (and I know this is gana sound so stupid) I wanted the character I was "portraying" to be like a Native North American Indian, a brave warrior, leader and daughter of the chief of their tribe... that's what I was going for but don't think I did it very well...
These are all conceptual pictures . My first ever actually...

You know, honestly I see a lot of these fashion photography works, and they are so retouched. They even change the shape of the body at times. Unfortunately that's what the industry wants, all their models to look like a 'barbie doll' bleh! haha. it isn't so bad really, but only sometimes it is too much 'perfect' if you know what I mean. I completely understand your desire, to 'stay natural'. Honestly, that type of thinking is rare and I admire that. Why cover up our 'gift' of imperfections. (if that makes sense) I am imperfect as well, in appearance, but it makes me unique, and well, just me!
And absolutely, I think these photo's are beautiful in their entirety, yet I understand your Dad's need to protect you. Because there are all kinds of people out there, some very harsh, uncaring and even rude. He must really care about you

First I have a question for you. Do you ever watch the tv show the Twilight Zone? There is one episode in particular I think you will like.
My sister is really short so it's okay (she is older than me) I tease her, but she also teases me about stuff too. It is harmless in our case.. I look around and say, "where are you Jamie I can't see you!?" Then I look down and say "oh! There you are!" And we both laugh. You should be proud of being short, you see things that others are too tall to see. (there's a lot of interesting things close to the ground, that go ignored every day) And I am not teasing, I am completely serious.
Everyone is beautiful! and what you just said is beautiful. We care too much about how we look. Sometimes I wish we all looked the same (sounds weird I know) and we only had each other's personalities to go from.
