Description I started this animation back in mid January. This video short is a tribute to an amazing unofficial contest we have over at He-man.org called the ‘Fan Staction Contest’ held annually by Thomas Tolman & it brings about the evolution of some of the greatest character concepts ever. The Winner of the contest is transformed into a 6” + statue by Mr. Tolman. I’d like to clarify that all of these are not my original characters, each of them is created by fans at the .org. But I have done the entire Animation completely on my own with a few assists from Patreek Ireland & Andrew Cramer. This Animation has been done with Toon Boom Studio 4.5 & ofcourse Adobe Photoshop CS2 & complied together with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Also I in order to avoid any copyright issues this I came up with a totally different concept that would separate these characters from the MOTU Universe just for this particular intro & decided to name is “Chronicles of the Forgotten Realm.”

I would like to thank every He-man.org member for their support & permission to allow me to use their characters.

Last but not the least I’d like to thank Mark Palenik for creating the original music for this 1:30 min animation with his song “Lost”. Thanks Mark!

Also I forgot to credit for his character Inkshot. Sorry bout that.

Following are the Lyrics to the song:

Lost, I was blinded in the middle of the night.
Which way is darkness and which way is light?

Down to demons shall we bow?
Does it even matter now
as I fight the lies in truths that fall before me?
Like a seed dropped in the sand
as I fight His rightous hand.
If it isn't arrogance, then what could it be?

My cries,
so hated in your eyes,
like they're just lies.

Lost, I was blinded in the middle of the night.
Before me was the darkness, behind me was the light.

So without further adue, Here’s Chronicles of the Forgotten Realm…

I don't know how much of a compliment I could give you, but it immediately made me think of He-Man before reading your comments. (And I'm not even a big fan of the show) Great work. I'd watch it!

As long as you liked it, I'm happy. And yes it is actually suppose to be He-man inspired. EWe have an unofficial contest on He-man.org every year where the winning character is made into a statue.

Yes, yes, let me reiterate; my first phrase was referring to how I was only one of hundreds who loved this video... It's fantastic. And that's a great concept for a contest.

That was really cool! Is there any way to improve the video quality a bit, because it got kinda pixelated in the middle. I loved the animation, though.

Wow, that was very good! For a fan-made animation, you really did a great job on it! The sequence of actions made it feel like a well-orchestrated music video; I like how close-ups would slide in during some of the scenes and that it wasn't just flat panels always facing the same way. You used perspective very well, simulated camera work wonderfully, and the characters looked great! It matched the music well, also. I think the only critique I have is the choppiness of the animation, but considering the intricacies of the art and characters, the amount of action involved, and the fact that this is fan-made, that is completely understandable. I think it was very well done overall and deserving of a DD. ^^ Congrats!

Given the complexity of most of the characters here, you presented it very well.

I enjoyed watching it (while simultaneously in awe and horrified at the prospect of drawing some of those detailed costumes over and over).

Some of the camera moves were very ambitious, and 01:04 worked particularly well. However, some of the character and camera movements were a little choppy - the fighting sequences stood out to me the most because they seemed to flow a lot smoother and had smoother, more natural movement.

Overall, though, this was very well-done, and congratulations on the DD.

I wish I could post the fully uncompressed file somewhere but its 350 MB avi. There's a lot of choppy parts that occur when you convert the video from AVI to divX using a converter as the whole frame rate changes. I'm sorry for that, but thank you that you liked it still.

JazylH In reply to Mr-Dummy [2009-04-30 02:13:18 +0000 UTC]

To be honest I've only used crossfading batween two scenes i.7 between when the maion bad guy smiles & the Polar bear brings his hammer down & the final scene. But Thats more of a problem that arises when you convert the file from Avi to DivX as the frame rate changes.
