I am also someone who feels that too many good characters, like the Powers family, didn't get the attention they deserved.Β

Couldn't have summed it up better myself.Β Alison Taylor would be a great regular character just so Lisa wouldn't be completely friendless.
The sad thing is even if these characters weren't voiced by guest stars I doubt The Simpsons would actually have them join, they seem to be afraid of changing the status quo on that show and it becomes more annoying with each passing season.

The way the Simpsons works, though, I think having characters like Jessica and Allison would make storylines a little repetitive. The Powers' would be good, though.

There's really a lot of characters you can do a lot with. For the sake of not going on for paragraphs I won't elaborate too much.
It's just completely frustrating when they focus instead on characters like Crazy Cat Lady and other characters that have exactly one note. Ever. All the while, characters that aren't even voiced by guest stars and could, very easily, be expanded upon (without even making to make much up in a lot of cases) will go entire seasons without so much as a single line.

Anybody else want to see them bring back Homer's half brother Herb [voiced by Danny Devito]?

He came back for a one scene cameo a few seasons ago, in an episode where Homer and Marge try to find new legal guardians for the kids just in case they die untimely deaths. Apparently he's dirt poor again, for the sake of plot convenience.

Actually, he was the villain in an early draft of The Simpsons Movie, but they dropped that because they didn't want to tie the plot to an episode of the show and they were afraid the audience wouldn't know who Scorpio was.
I'll never understand their decision to write the movie for people who had never watched The Simpsons before - especially considering that, after 18 seasons, it's pretty safe to say that no one had never seen The Simpsons before.

Well, obviously you can't have a villain that ties in to an old episode of the show. They tried that with Wrath of Kahn, and look at how poorly that movie did!

I had heard that before. I liked the movie overall, but I think they tried too hard to make it so people who hadn't seen the show would get every single aspect of the show, such as changing "Moe's" to "Moe's Bar". I think people would've understood it was a bar.
By the way, your name looks familiar. You comment on Dead Homers sometimes, right?

Yeah, the touching end of "Lisa's Rival" falls a little flat when you know Allison will be demoted to a background character from that point forward. It's a shame her character and the Powers family couldn't have been recast with regulars, since their relationships with Marge and Lisa would've provided some more opportunities for plotlines outside of the endless cycle of Homer Gets a New Job and Homer Jeopardizes His Marriage plots we've gotten over the last decade.

Jessica Lovejoy, Ruth and Laura Powers all have short storylines of their own on the Tapped Out app, if that counts.

A lot of these characters do not have to be tied solely to their original voice artists, especially if it's a celebrity voice who's difficult to reach.Β

Ruth Powers and Alison Taylor are probably the two biggest ones for me, because the writers have said that Marge and Lisa are the hardest characters to think up stories for since they don't have any friends. But I'm over here going "They do have friends, they just weren't played by one of your six regulars."
I would have liked to see Jessica Lovejoy return maybe once every one or two seasons, like Sideshow Bob - just this constantly returning force in Bart's life who swoops in unexpectedly and makes things a living hell for him. Bart is at his best when he's a rebellious punk (something the writers have forgotten how to do in recent years, it seems), so when he has a foil who steps over boundaries even he wouldn't cross, there's a lot of good potential for stories there.

I agree, they would be good characters. What are guest stars that have worn out their welcome and the show should get rid of them? The two I want gone the most are Sideshow Bob cause he has been used tooooooo much and Judge Harm she is the worst she makes Judge Doom look harmless and he was a killer.

jbwarner86 In reply to Zim999 [2015-08-13 16:44:50 +0000 UTC]
Judge Harm was always kind of annoying - just a straight-up copy of Judge Judy, really. There's not much you can do with that. Judge Snyder was far better, being one of the few competent people in Springfield and providing a great foil to someone as utterly incompetent as Lionel Hutz.
I was baffled when the show brought back Zooey Deschanel as Mary Spuckler from that Season 19 episode where Bart joins the 4-H club, and decided "Oh hey, she's a rich socialite now, never mind how a 10-year-old can achieve that". I still think they did that just to bank on the popularity of "New Girl".

Yeah, with massive luck the show will kill her next.
Mary was a good character, last time she appeared she was widow. My guess is the boy who took her was force to marry her at a shotgun wedding and Celtus' gun could have gone off and killed him, but no big loss he wasn't that good to be a returning character.
What are character you wished they never made?
