Description
1 - What parts of your prompt were written well and easy to understand? Was there anything the writer of the prompt could improve on or include next time they create a prompt?
For this month, I had to choose a prompt due to me getting a feral prompt, which I’m not confident in my abilities to draw them. While this prompt was vague compared to one of the other options to choose from, I felt this prompt was the least encroaching on things I despise, despite containing things I do. So, while it was vague, it was straightforward so that’s good. But as with any vague prompt I get, don’t take my opinion as the rule since many people prefer these prompts. Plus, I shouldn’t be complaining as I chose the prompt myself.
2 - Please explain how you interpreted the prompt to create your design. Which features did you use? Did you stick to the chosen palette or make changes to it? Does the design you created have any special abilities or quirks?
As aforementioned, I thought this prompt was...the lesser of three evils. Now, that’s not to say the prompt is bad nor any of the other options were, they just requested themes I’m not fond of. (Which I’m sure many other people, would enjoy those themes.) This prompt wanted Halloween, which I can’t stand Halloween and despise it so much. However, one of the options was another Halloween-esque prompt that seemed too Halloween, horror genre and unable to avoid it, which I had to turn my nose up at it, despite being a lot more intricate then this. To be fair though, I really didn’t care whichever one I got and I would’ve done any of the three options if I was required to do them since this isn’t my character, therefore my opinion really doesn’t matter. But I’m happy I got the prompt I would’ve preferred since I wasn’t looking forward to going into drawing one of the two different subjects I loathe.
Anyway, I chose this prompt because of a few reasons. One reason was that I actually thought I could get away with not doing the Halloween theme yet make a character that they would like due to it deviating yet following the prompt at the same time. What I mean is that I thought of a character that “could” be spooky or even “Halloween” yet it isn’t Halloween themed at all. Basically it’s not Halloween, yet it can be despite it not distinctively being Halloween. There is a few points made in the prompt itself that made me figure out that I could avoid the Halloween theme yet keep the essence of the prompt with the design. One was the color pallet. They wanted navy blue, silver and cyan; colors that aren’t associated with that horrible holiday. Two, species choice wasn’t a monster or something relating to Halloween, therefore leeway on the character is available. Lastly, I used the prompt's own vagueness against it due to it not really specifying anything Halloween related. The only things mentioned was sharp claws, teeth and chubby, which the later isn’t related to the holiday. Normally I frown on taking personalization and freedom with these exchanges, but if I am given the choice to avoid drawing stuff I despise, I will take it, which I did by choosing this prompt and using it to get around working with anything Halloween related.
They requested reptiles, nagas or dragons. Originally I wanted to draw a naga/snake bottomed anthro since I’ve not drawn one yet. However, I thought the character would be better off being a full anthro dragon. I went with eastern dragon since I just saw her as one rather then a western dragon. Plus, I like eastern dragons little more despite not seeing them a lot. (Well, actually, I like them a lot more since they’re right behind phoenixes/mythical birds, gryphons/griffins and anghas/simurghs in terms of my favorite mythological creatures. Western dragons are pretty far down the list.)
I’m somewhat surprised the prompt specifically requested a more chubby female. I mention this as I try to avoid drawing the “sexy” female body type most artists draw. Tiny waists, big breasts, big hips. I prefer realism and in reality, most females don’t have tiny ass waists and big breasts. In fact, rectangle body types are the most common, followed by triangle and pear. The hourglass is actually the rarest. (Even if I do draw the hourglass body type, I try to make it realistic and not have anything out of proportions, like making sure the waist isn’t too small and the breasts aren’t too large.) Anyway, I’m just glad that someone requested more chubby female since it’s a pet peeve when people make all their characters “sexy”. (Male characters also have a cliche “sexy” trope, but artists usually do it with female characters. Probably because artists feel that all their female character must be “sexy”. Sorry, but I prefer realism over “unrealistic sexy”.) However, I’m not entirely sure you can tell she’s a bit more chubby because of her clothing. Though, if you saw the lineart of her before I erased the parts that are covered by the clothing, you’ll know that I definitely went with a little more chubby. Females can be nice without those unrealistic beauty standards.
I actually didn’t know what exactly is the inspiration for her overall at first. However, I know it’s French playing cards as she has a heart hair accessory, a club on her belt, the missing fifth suit, the eagle as her earring, and all the suits on her outfit. Not to mention I threw in the suits in the background. So, I can probably say French playing cards are a good inspiration. I’ve always seen French playing cards as a more dark theme then the typical poker/Las Vegas theme. It’s kind of weird that I love dark/gloomy themes yet I despise Halloween.(Then again, I don’t like horror themes, which is what Halloween is mostly. Despite what some people believe, there really is a big difference between dark/gloomy themes and horror.)
Navy blue was a requested color, which I used as a main color for her body, though I think it's too saturated to be navy. Since silver was requested, I did use a similar color, grey, which lacks the iridescent sheen silver does. Silver and and grey are the colors I chose for her outfit along with some cyan hues and cerulean hue accents. To me, I’ve always seen greys, blue hues, cyan hues, aqua hues, purple hues and even pink hues as more gloomy and dark colors then red hues, orange hues, etc, so I’m happy. As cyan hues were requested, I used pictan cyan for her hair. Speaking of colors, I do need to say her eyes have several colors. She has a band of iridescent danube blue between her pupil and iris and her eyes are a marvelous viking aqua.
If the person wanted a more direct theme that directly correlates to Halloween, I apologize. I just thought I could keep the essence of the prompt yet create a character that isn’t Halloween, but it easily could be if they wanted to.
If the person doesn’t like anything about their design, they are always free to revamp it to their tastes.

For via
Due to the dark/gloomy theme, this is one of my favorite designs I’ve done so far in the exchange. I was tempted to keep them for myself, but I know that I can’t do that. Plus, it’s an eastern dragon and any hue of cyan is a favorite color to me, so two other reasons why I like it.
