== Overview:==
  The Tomahawk was a 'Mech that was designed before it had an intended
purchaser.   The initial concept was hashed out by Gibson engineers during
brainstorming session in 3002 about the perfect heavy scout.   While there
were a number of designs that fit the mission profile, they all had one
feature or another that held them back.   The biggest issue was ammunition
supply; the engineers came to the conclusion that a good scout 'Mech needed
to have only energy weapons to extend its duration.   The second issue was
maneuverability; some intended heavy scouts lacked jumpjets that gave a 'Mech
the ability to move in more than just two dimensions on the battlefield.
The third feature that a heavy scout needed was a robust electronics suite
that could keep working under the worst field conditions.   In part, this
also included the life-support systems for the pilot; a rested pilot was one
that was alert and ready when conditions were critical.
  The engineers decided to take their ideas and see what they could design
using available components.   What began as a theoretical concept was quick
gathering steam as the engineers realized they were onto something.   They
were rapidly able to come up with a working set of plans to place before
their bosses, who were surprised to see the specs for a new 'Mech as they had
not asked for any.   As they read through the plans, the Gibson staff
realized they had a winner of a design and authorized the team a single
production line for the new 'Mech.   The new 'Mech was designated the
Tomahawk, which quickly gained a place as an excellent multiple-purpose
medium 'Mech.

== Capabilities:==
  The Tomahawk was originally designed as a heavy scout, and its form
follows that function.   While it is a bit light on weapons compared to other
medium 'Mechs, the Tomahawk has a robust chassis and some of the heaviest
armor seen on a 'Mech of its weight.   The Tomahawk can stand up to 'Mechs
heavier than it is, but a wise pilot will use what firepower he has to keep
moving and avoid closing for a slugfest with a heavy 'Mech.   The Tomahawk
designed to remain mobile on the battlefield, gathering intelligence and
disrupting enemy scouts in turn.
  The firepower of the Tomahawk is centered around the Magna MkIII large
laser.   This weapon has a concentrated damage profile and is reliable and
easy to maintain away from organized maintenance facilities.   For close-
range firepower the 'Mech carries a brace of torso-mounted medium lasers
that can quickly reduce a target to scraps and spare parts.   The lasers are
well-supplied with heat sinks; a Tomahawk pilot has a good amount of time
firing all of his weapons before his 'Mech reaches critical heat levels.
  The electronics packages for the 'Mech were chosen because of their
reliability and ease of maintenance.   Semi-palletized, a pilot can easily
work on the electronics in the field with the aid of a maintenance system
that can walk a pilot through most maintenance procedures.   The maintenance
system sounds a bit arrogant at times, and pilots certain of their
maintenance skills have been known to turn off the systems to avoid being
lectured.   The life support system of the 'Mech is configured for long-
endurance missions and can keep the pilot alert and rested; so much so that
pilots have come to call the life support system of a Tomahawk the 'Easy
Chair'.   Some pilots have to be reminded at times to take breaks every 48
hours or so to keep their circulation flowing.

== Battle History:==
  Even as a relatively new design, the Tomahawk has seen a large number
battles.   Part of this is the civil war inside of the Free Worlds League
  Many of the sides have purchased the 'Mech as an effective supplement to
their medium 'Mech forces, and this led to many engagements where Tomahawk
fought Tomahawk.
  The best example of this came in 3016, during the battle for the planet
Loeches.   The 1st Battalion, Free Worlds Legionnaires, was dropped to
suppress the 11th Marik Militia, who had forced the 3rd Atrean Dragoons off
planet with considerable losses several weeks before.     The 1st Battalion
was expecting a heavy fight, and the 11th Militia gave it to them.     During
several ferocious battles for Falcon Ridge dominating the main pass to
Freewater City, the 1st Battalions Tomahawks were crucial both in providing
direct fire support for denting Militia attacks and leading Legionnaire
attacks.   Just as ferocious were the Militia Tomahawks performing similar
duties.   The fight remained at a stalemate until the 2nd Battalion dropped
behind the 11th Militia, forcing them to retreat from the ridge.   When the
11th Militia tried to withdraw to Freewater City, they found themselves
caught between the two Battalions.
  The Militia was soon crushed and the survivors surrendered.

== Variants:==
  The only variant considered so far would replace the large laser, a medium
laser, and a ton of armor for a Fusigon Longtooth PPC.   This would turn the
Tomahawk into a mobile direct-fire unit that could in turn help support other
storm units in battle.   Thus far this variant remains a theoretical variant
but the simulations  are promising enough that a prototype of the variant is
in production.

== Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:==
Captain James 'Jack' Johnson
  As commander of Johnson's Company, 1st Battalion of the Free
Worlds Legionnaires, Captain Johnson was was was in the thick of the fighting
for the Falcon Ridge on the planet Loeches.   Time and again, he led his
company of medium 'Mechs in attacks to repulse Militia assaults on the 1st
Battalion lines in his Tomahawk, the 'Memory Serves Me'.   That Captain Johnson
came away the victor in such almost foolhardy attacks speaks of his skill as
much as the capabilities of his 'Mech.   Captain Johnson has been offered
promotion to lead the 1st Battalion, but he has declined, preferring to
remain with his hard-charging company.

== Deployment==
  The Tomahawk is not an overly common 'Mech, as it is not a high-priority
design for Gibson BattleMechs.   As reports have come back from the field
about the excellent capabilities of the 'Mech, a second line is being turned
over to manufacture of the 'Mech.    It remains a FWLM 'Mech, often deployed
as an all-Tomahawk lance to maximize its long-range endurance.   As more
Tomahawks become available, some FWLM commanders are starting to look at the
Tomahawk as a storm unit, capable of keeping up energy fire during an
assault.   With the results of the fighting on Loeches helping to prove the
theories, production of the 'Mech could see an increase.
