An excellent point of view. Great to see an Australian coastal shot not all sun, sand and surf! cheers, j

A really impressive treatment of the rock!
Do you know what you were looking at? That is a shot of ancient volcanic sea floor. Those rusty lines are actually the outer edges of a number of tubes of lava (think toothpaste tubes) that flowed out under the sea and - millions or billions of years later - were tilted on end and cut open by erosion. Your photo shows a cross-section of a big pile of lava tubes. Sea water cooled the edges very quickly, forming the sort of oval "selvedges" that outline the edges of each tube. If you want to know which way was up, look at several of the tubes - the smooth, rounded side that looks like a bubble pointed towards the ocean surface, and the side that droops down and has a little accumulation of selvedge drawn downwards by gravity was on the bottom side of the tube. In Canada, we call those cross-sectional formations "pillows", which is kind of what they look like. Really big ones are called mattresses - and they tend to be a little more square.
At least, that's what it looks like from where I am, on the other side of the planet!

Love the deep reds. It's hard to see but it looks like some rough seas out there. Nice work
