This will make some Thomas fans cross and be shocking, but I do not have any shame of disliking this movie (well, only the final cut because the Director's Cut is a lot more superior to the final version we have) and I will explain why. But first with the redeeming qualities

The only redeeming qualities is that I enjoyed the Director's Cut which shows lost scenes that would have made the movie good, Junior being the comic relief, funny scenes, several human characters having some development (Mr. Conductor and Junior), the music score by Hummie Mann, an awesome orchestral version of "He’s a Really Useful Engine", and the chase music. The problems for this movie was none other than the hypocritical test audiences who were up to no good and are drunk and corrupt. When Britt Allcroft was forced to do the bad requests by the test audiences, it caused a lot of laziness and problems for this movie and it is why the movie got a lot of negative reviews for its confusing storyline and that it flopped at the box office. It took 20 years until the lost scenes were restored and the 20th anniversary Blu ray was released.

A. Played by the late Doug Lennox, PT Boomer was supposed to be the secondary antagonist who actually destroyed Lady because of his jealousy towards his rival, Burnett Stone. But when the corrupted audiences deemed him scary, his lines were dropped and was a cameo character instead. His role went to Diesel 10, whom Burnett Stone recognized. That really made no sense! It also drew a lot of negative criticism towards the final cut. If you remove a character who is scary you’re making the film worse and the plot confused.
B. Wrong Voice Actor for James: Susan Roman was so awful as James in the final cut. Her voice made James sounded too FEMININE and controversial! Along with Percy, James was supposed to be voiced by the late Michael Angelis, who was the narrator from Series 3 to 16, but the test audiences found him "too old" and they replaced him with Susan Roman and Linda Ballentyne. At least, Linda's voice as Percy is decent and makes some sense that he is the youngest member of the Steam Team, so I can tolerate his voice being done by a female just because he is a young character of the Steam Team. But as for James, it would have been better if the test audiences realized that Roman's voice for James is way too feminine. They would suggest Allcroft to replace Roman with David Ogden Stiers as her voice as James "TOO FEMININE and GIRLY". Roman would have been good as Annie, one of Thomas' coaches. It would have made this film great.
C. No Other Characters from the Show were Included: The reason they couldn't finish the models of Edward, Duck, and George is that they didn't have enough time to finish their models. FOR GOD"S SAKES! They rushed up the production for the 2000 release date! Had they delay the release date to Early 2001, the models of Edward, Duck, George, and the other characters would have been finished. And if they were included, Ringo Starr and Mark Harelik would have came back to voice Edward and Duck, George Carlin would have voiced George if only George's model was finished, and Cranky by Michael Angelis, who originally voiced James and Percy in the original cut.
D. No Firemen and Drivers. They are the ones that needed to drive engines around. It's such a pity that no humans on Sodor are seen, except Bertie's driver. WHAT THE HELL were they thinking?! They could have used clay models of the characters like what the filmmakers do in movies for Wallace and Gromit.

Now they're the reasons why I hated the final cut of Thomas and the Magic Railroad. If it they took their time in their production and not listen to the corrupted test audiences by delaying the film's release to Late 2000 and Early 2001 while adding more characters that weren't included in this film (Edward, Duck, Donald/Douglas, Oliver, Terrance, Trevor, Mavis, George, and Cranky), develop a better story, reinstate Boomer, and replace Susan Roman with David Ogden Stiers to voice James, this movie would have easily become my favorite Thomas movie!

Sorry my reasonings took long, but if you like this film, then I can tolerate your opinion.
