Description My entry for 's coloring contest. I've always wanted to color one of her pieces and the contest was good incentive. I've been working on it off and on for a couple of weeks now and finally finished it.

I tried to keep with the nouveau theme suggested by the title and style of the picture, but I tweaked it a little to my own liking. I went with a little darker and slightly eastern twist. I chose lotus blossoms for the background as opposed to a more traditional flower, as I really love them.

Who knows how long I spent on this, off and on. Probably more than I should have. I don't know that I can compete with some of the other really nice pieces she's gotten so far.

Your entry was one of my favorites. I love colored pencil and you did a very lovely job. Beautiful color scheme and shading. You even got a cool glowy effect on the lights. Your piece made me jealous that I didn't try colored pencil.

Aww. I still feel that way sometimes when I look at artists I really like. I try seeing it as a reason to strive harder instead of a reason to hide. You should see some of my early stuff, it's taken alot of work to get here.

The border doesn't seem to be as crisp as the girl turned out, but I love how you combined nouveau and eastern cultures. I also love the way your fabric looks like real fabric. I'd like to know your shading/highlighting techniques one of these days, it'd be incredibly useful. What program did you use on this?

Yeah, I wasn't entirely pleased with it either, but at a certain point I just said "screw it". I had been working on it for a while and was tired of messing with it.

I don't know that I really have a particular shading technique. I just combine little bits and pieces from various tutorials and personal observation. And I heavily favor the airbrush tool.

I use PS CS2 + tablet.
