Description I love this flower! It's like a golden explosion and (IMO) contrasts beautifully with the green background.

Here goes my first critique (found from the November critique thread):

I really like this photo. The contrast of the warm yellow flower against the dark green background is lovely. I also enjoy some of the shadows for extra contrast on the flower. But the warm yellow is very relaxing as you can almost feel the suns warmth as the flower does.

However, the composition is not my taste - I would've enjoyed seeing more of the flower and not have the lower portion cutoff for a more complete photo. I only mark originality lower as there are many photos of flowers.

Overall, great photo with some minor tweaks to composition e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

The thought of the sun immediately invaded my mind at the first glance. A golden explosion is a good description as well. Beautiful, Jen.

I LOVE yellow, but this flower is unknown to me. Is it what is called a straw flower? Great depth of field, so harmonic!

You know I really have no idea what kind of flower this is! This was taken during one my greenhouse adventures. I just go to a place that sells flowers and start snapping away with the camera

Your description read my mind; I don't think I could add anything to that. For some reason I'm really drawn to golden yellow flowers. What kind of flower is this?

As for the type of flower... I honestly can't say! I should have looked at the tag (I get most of my flower shot from nurseries haha)

I think I'm getting into this flower-quiz-thing - though this one is easy: most likely a form of Xerochrysum bracteatum - they're well known for being easy to dry.

I actually like those better when half closed...

by the way: you inspired me to start a few experiments with my own flower snapshots - though you couldn't call the thing i'm working with a camera

What kind of non-camera do you have? lol

a waterproof pentax thingy - just for snapshots, not "real photography".

I've already posted three quick edits, and I'm about to add another one...though that one's rather spooky...

hey, listen.. my first photographs were done with a 4 MP digital camera. I was able to get some decent pieces with them!Β

I'll go take a look
