This painting is more of a study in mood than a direct portrait of any of the characters from Elizabeth Hand’s book of the same title. She represents a reveler at the feast that gives the book its title.
It also marks one of the first times I began working on a larger size paper or board. It was like the borders of my imagination were expanding exponentionally along with my confidence in my abilities. I’ve worked larger since, but I return again and again to this standard size, feeling there is still more left to master, more challenges to conquer. We’ll get there, I’m sure.
