the Tatsu was a pet on the online petsite neopets,
of course you all know neopets.
back when I was an itty-bitty kid, I had one as my pet. But one day neopets decided to update the Tatsu species and turned them into Eyerie, those much-loved griffin creatures.
I, on the other hand, was both distraught and baffled when the switch happened, and left neopets, never ever to return.
I had a male yellow Tatsu, I even went as far as to use the actual colours on the old Tatsu image to get him right in this pic :3
funny though, I was sure up until recently that I named him satsan, and that his race were called tatsan... but now I know they were really called tatsu, it's possible he was called Satsu. It was very unoriginal of me, but seeing as his race are officially classified as extinct, it doesn't really matter. The little girl in the picture is supposed to be me when I was small.

aww jessie is a dragon tamer. if anything i would have thought these things would have evolved into those dragon creatures on neo pets...

A very sweet picture. I used to play Neo back when they had macy gray as a pet (LOL.), so yeah, I do remember these guys.
I was also pretty dissapointed when they switched them to eyries, but the straw that broke the camel's back was when they changed the Lupe from a proud wolflike creature into a mindless big headed cartoon puppy. I quit after that change. Went on a few times after, only to find all the pets had become bloated cartoon blobs of what they once were.
Havent been back in years, especially now considering they make people pay real money for stuff now and you can dress your pet in clothes. -_-
Anyways, this is an awesome image and a nice homage of a unique pet. I honestly think the only reason they changed it is because they knew a gryphon would be more popular than a unique one of a kind pet, just because gryphons are more associable I guess.

I actually kind of prefer it, so Satsu he is. Also now he doesn't clash with my old use of satsan as username...
I don't even know if Tatsu was supposed to be japanese, but I know his species' armour that you could buy was samurai based. I bought some cause it was really epic looking. You couldn't see it on the characters back then though. Lol, so old school.
