The idea isn't mine, Shlomo Bernitz on EDF pointed out the similarity and I wanted to draw it. Took me like, 15 minutes lol, I really need to get packing instead of doodling stupid crap.

Why do Hetalia fans feel the need to draw fanart for every disaster that befalls a nation? It's just disrespectful and makes the fandom look worse than it already does. Do we have to connect Hetalia with everything?

On another note, dude I totally agree with you about Hetalia-izing tragedies. Even... 'well-done' and sort of respectful in a weird way tragedy-centric fanart/AMV's make me cringe a little. I don't mind darker and edgier fanfiction based on, well, unhappy events in history, but some things are still too freaking soon. I heard a lot of Japanese fans were sick of the 'Pray For Japan' Hetalia fanart back in March.

I just think... sticking cutesy animu characters on an otherwise poignant (sp) tribute picture ruins whatever emotion the artist was trying to attempt. *is tired*
For some reason I have a double standard when it comes to fanfiction based on historical tragedy. I'm usually okay or just 'meh' when it comes to tribute fanfiction, as long as there's no fucking shipping for no fucking reason except to have hurt/comfort desu-ness. Because sweet Arceus, UKUS hurt/comfort 9/11 fics make me want to punch babies. And a lot of other "tragedy" ship fics. Like a certain Japan/China event. That is all I'm going to say.
Buuuut anyways, TL;DR, Hetalia characters are just cutesy personifications, they shouldn't be the centerpiece of narmful art dedicated to tragedies.
But, y'know, at least in fanfiction, you don't risk making characters look like they have some kind of birth defect. Sometimes they act like it, though.
