Concept There wasn't much thought behind the meaning of this piece. I'd been experimenting with a new technique and wanted to play with it. I'd also met a woman with the most delicious knees I had ever seen... and wanted to draw knees. Lo, an angel was born/Materials
This was another mixed media piece. The dress is cut pieces of paper, each segment is completely flat and using only one piece of paper. The wings are three D, and each individual feather is cut out of paper. The hair is black ink with a bit of copper leafing added to it. The skin is colored pencil, with blank ink for the garter, and the background is watercolor.

Hi, Jessica. Good afternoon, and a happy birthday shout to you. Truth be told, it's virtually impossible to find a "favorite" -- so many of your works are just excellent. So, heck, I'll pick this one "because" -- I always have to have a because... since you say she has "delicious knees" I have to agree. Now I'll be thinking of delicious knees all day. I'm in awe of how you assembled her dress. I'd love to be able to collage something like that, but I have no idea how I'd even begin to make color and pattern all come together in a beautiful balanced way the way you do it. (sigh) I'll just have to admire and be inspired in the meantime.

So you made a pretty woman, because you liked her knees! Sounds reasonable to me... This is lovely - humorous andΒ dynamicΒ with a very light touch. Might have been garish - instead it's wonderfully delicate!

I believe it's 8 x 10, framed out to 11 x 14. I just moved so it's packed away, let me get the actual measurements once I get unpacked.

As to feathers, a labour of love, the depth brings life to the subject even in the small redition on the screen.

For a print try having camera perpedicular to picture, but have light source between 30 to 80 degrees to plane. Set camera to general focus: this should eliminate the blurring etc.
As for scanning: put a thin - 5mm to 15mm - sheet of perpex on the art work first, this keeps the materials stable and minimises the depth problem.
