I rarely use Paint, but of course you can make them there too. I prefer Paint Shop Pro (9) because of the invisble bg just like Photoshop

I think the only important thing with pixel-icons is that you have to make them pixel by pixel (which is rather annoying sometimes )

but actually icons are not that much of a pain to do. They're only 50x50. I've tried bigger ones...never again!

once you have the lines, everything will be easy. You should try it. my icons were all mad out of boredom. it's a good time-killer
