If he's a Great One, he is powerful enough to do whatever he wants.Β If he wants to look like a human, then he'll look like a human.Β Besides, Great Ones are more seen with your mind than your eyes so he could probably change how he is perceived.

great ones in the original lovecraftian style are shape-shifters one and all. the hunter wouldn't look like their original form, there would be things that are off, things that mark them as clearly other (for example, they may have no eyes, or their skin has markings that shift and move, or they don't bend where their joints are supposed to be), but they'd look close enough that without an inspection, they'd pass as human.
especially if it's a bloodborne great one, who are sympathetic and kind. look at the brain of mensis, it just helps people. not it's fault looking at it drives you mad.

Do you known about Nyarlathotep, Nyarlathotep is an Outer God, The Great One's are inspired from the Outer Gods from Lovecraft. Nyarlathotep is an evil and powerfull entity that doesn't have a form, but much persons known that he has a list of avatars, like Adolf Hitler, A Black Pharaoh, etc. So The Hunter could turn himself in his original form

no, nyarlathotep is a great old one. lovecraft created a number of layers of supremely power beings, great old ones, elder gods, outer gods and others. the great ones of bloodborne are closer to the great old ones in both name and function than they are to the elder or outer gods, since both of those are entities on scales that don't even make sense to the human mind. the only potential elder or outer god in bloodborne is oedon, due to being omnipresent.
and shapeshifters in lovecraft are always slightly off. they aren't quite human, but they'll pass without close inspections. so the hunter could look like their original form, but they'd be.....off.

well, Oedon is also the one that uses blood as a medium. so, Oedon's power is the reason the blood heals you, is why the beast blood pellets work and why you can make blood bullets. not really his fault that every woman has blood, and thus he can and does get many of them pregnant. usually with disastrous results sure, but hey.

For my Hunter I think the hardest part would be having to restrain himself from helping the Doll.
The other old gods just wanted to help, then they ended up turning Yharnam into literally EVERY nightmare. Do to the Doll being the ultimate wifu, ever fiber of his being would be wanting to fulfill her greatest wish...... To Feel.
But he can't because he knows it would be more then likely hurt rather than help.

I do not think that the Doll has a wish. She is just, uh, like a thing to me. She is 'made' for her function and I can't get myself to feel anything for her apart from being a bit creeped out by the "You made me to love you" dialogue>____> She is designed to be perfect waifu, after all, there's not really much to her.Β
In my headcanon she just is - every Hunter revives his own Doll, and when they go crazy or are freed form the Dream, the Dolls are discarded and turn into Winter Lanterns.Β
As for the gods - maybe some wanted to help, maybe some didn't. I see Yharnam as an unfortunate intersection on their path and the gods are also selfish - they want kids and humans are good surrogates. Moon Presence, in mu head, serves as a sort of a gatekeeper and tries to keep the other gods from crashing on Earth... because their very presence fucks things upTAT

Well we have different head canons, nothing wrong with that.
In my mind the Doll is alive, a different kind of life, but alive.Β
She is a person who was never born, never grew up, and was never given a proper body. She was a doll who was in the workshop, and when the Moon Presence made the Hunters Dream, there was something that looked like a person in it. The doll that looked like a person that someone played with, probably Maria, treated it like a friend-an imaginary friend-someone loved this thing that looked like a person, but wasn't. So when the Moon Presence made the Hunters Dream those memories made the persona, Maria made for the Doll come to life.
Though of course this comes with some problems,
the Doll never grew up, she, and who she was, were made. She never found out who she was, when she woke up, she was there.
The Doll never learned, she just woke up and knew.
The Doll was never born, she just woke up in a body that couldn't feel.
She comes across as emotionless, but polite, most of the time because she never grew up like a human, and isn't human, emotions and feelings are different for her, and she is still coming to understand them. But she still cares, why would she pray for the Hunter other wise?
She hears about how people describe sensations, but she can't feel them, her body is fake, she can't feel, and her greatest wish is to feel.
But that is my head canon, nothing wrong with conflicting head canons

Well, for my case, i could be agree with you, The doll originally was created by Gerhman and Moon Presence, especially for Gerhman's mania for Maria, when Gerhman meet the Doll, Gerhman starts to don't like her because she doesn't look the Maria's Personality, and the Doll has only the feeling of help Gerhman and the other Hunters.
So later, when the other hunters came to the Hunters Dream, they told her about the church and their loves, so the doll could be learn about the love, but maybe she starts to feel some feelings of envy, because the hunters have Families, friends and girlfriends or boyfriends, also she could be learn that she was created for satisfy the Gerhman's mania and for what Gerhman doesn't like her.
If you remenber to Eileen the crow, i think she could be the first friend that the Doll have. With Eileen she could be learn about the friendship.
Nowww, when the Hunter/Huntress comes to the Hunter's Dream and when he/she (in my case he, because i prefer male protagonist, and no i'm not Gay, is only my preference, i like the heterosexual relationships) meets the Doll, the Hunter starts to feel some love feelings for the doll, well you know you are in a city infested by creatures from other dimensions, werewolfs, vampires, zombies and horrible persons, so the doll is a character to feel comfort and to forget the nightmare that you suffer all days, and when Doll start to meet more of the Hunter and she learns that he doesn't have any remembers of his past, he has no family, no friends, and no love. The Doll sees that Hunter see her like his only beloved person that he has. So when the hunter gifts the small hair ornament to the Doll she starts the understand the joy and the love, so she finally has a person that loves her and see her like a real person, and she starts to love the Hunter.
So when the Hunter turns himself into a squid, the Doll stays with him, because he reborn like a child, she starts to take care of her beloved person to the end, and when he grow up, he and she could be start a new life for them and the others.
So that's my point.
