Beautiful! I LOVE the colors and the way everything just blends together. It almost looks like a nebula explosion. How did you do this? I see you used glass. It almost looks like you illuminated the glass from the back to get that erethral glow.

I put a layer of medium on a piece of glass and then blend acrylic color somewhat liquid into the medium. After doing soft blends with a large brush, I put another piece of glass on top and spend an hour pushing on the glass to work air bubbles out. Then watch as the color starts to do it's own thing.

That sounds so fun and it made such a gorgeous result! Would it be a bad thing if I tried it? I'd want to ask permission first since it's you're technique? I haven't worked with acrylic in quite a while and the way it looks on the glass, it's just stunning!

Go for it... They are fun to do and a complete antithesis to pointillism. A few hints - you have to push down on the glass for quite a bit and the paint will start to do it's own thing. Put something soft under the glass to cushion it a bit. I used to put newspaper but now I use cardboard, because paint will squish out of the sides and the newspaper will eventually dry to the glass and you have to spend an hour cleaning the dried paper bits off of it. You will have to experiment with the "liquidity" of the acrylic. Not liquid enough and you won't get the color blends that look the best. Too liquid and you end up with the colors separating and getting clear pockets when it dries. Don't try and work the paint too much with a brush before you put the glass on as the brushstrokes can be visible... Good luck..have fun... smile

I will definitely keep that in mind! Hows foam work as a cushion? Or is it too much softness underneath the glass? I have a bunch of different Liquitex acrylics in my tool box, I'm sure one of them will work. Did you by any chance mix water in with your acrylics or a flow medium to get them liquidy enough to blend?

I have tried water, works on the firmer acrylics (and the ones that have sat in the tube for a long time). Only the last two I've done used a slo-dry blending medium (and I do like the results from that). One more hint, they take forever to fully dry (weeks). To get an interesting effect, after a day or two, you can set the glass vertical on edge and gravity will start changing the piece, too long though and paint will start to ooze out of the bottom. I have a bad carpet stain in my bedroom to prove it.... I had thought the piece dry.. wrong..

Thanks Teresa. I've had to take a break from the dots... but I'm getting up the courage to start another.

love the almost-neon look of some of those blues - reminds me of fire

Neon Fire would have been a better title. I used 7 different shades of blue and 5 violets.. just to see what would happen. Thanks

It does come alive. Going to take a few more days to completely dry, subtle changes still happening.
