Captain Third Rank Igor Kolosov served as an officer specializing in weapons and electronics on several Russian Foxtrot submarines, including B-427. He was Staff Officer in the Submarine Squadron based in Vladivostok, Russia.

His sub put to sea in Leningrad in 1971. It prowled the Pacific with 22 torpedoes and the capability of launching low-yield nuclear warheads. The captain now lives in California.

Povodnaya Lodka B-427 submarines, called Foxtrots by NATO, were designed to gather intelligence. Still used by some countries, they can sit submerged for 10 days without making any noise or emitting any heat. Their bulbous noses hold surveillance and sonar equipment. Much of the history of both the captain and his sub are still classified but unofficially it is believed that they served active duty off the coast of California.
