Description Part of project. I just had to draw Grimmjow, because he is so cool.
I know the jaw is weird. If anyone can tell me why the shading on his jaw looks like a beard instead of shading, then please do tell me. I have the reference in the below link, so you can compare

---
Time taken: approx. 2-3 hours
Tools: water colour pencils, pencil, water colour paper, photoshop cs6 and canon camera for editing
Reference: 2.bp.blogspot.com/_7J_WGI7Jygw… (Yes, it's Brad Pitt, LOL. Though I added some obvious changes )
Grimmjow (C) Tite Kubo

I'm not seeing a beard. Men generally do have darker shading in that area of their jaw because they have hair, and it's darker even when shaved. Personally, I think it looks fantastic. He's still sharp angles and feline grace, but he's got that rugged look that his personality really makes prominent. Nicely done!

Also, it's possible that the beard-effect comes from having looked at the reference a lot: I don't see it at all!

Jiejiep In reply to SEEYAxo [2013-09-04 13:11:58 +0000 UTC]

Really? I'm not sure. Another person said it was perhaps caused by the blended line between shading and skin. If the line between them had been sharper it might not have looked like a beard, perhaps. XD I could try it next time. For you as well Thought I'd mention it, so that the next time you encounter it, you won't be pondering about a possible cause for unwanted-beards

Oh god! I had no idea that colored pencils could do this! The highlights and shadows just blow me away~

These are not even the right pencils, lol! They are water colour pencils, but I am too chicken to use a wet brush, because the first drawing was completely ruined by my bad techniques, lol. Though few days back I bought super expensive colouring pencils which are supposed to be beautifully bright and blend easily, but the next day I accidentally threw the whole box on the ground AAARGH. The coal inside must have all been broken now *whines*. It's extra painful because there were so expensive XD

Thanks for the compliments, by the way XD

This is beautiful! Love the eyes
I think the beard effect is caused by the unclear separation of light and shadow. On the reference picture we can clearly see where the shadow starts. Oh this picture we can see where the shadow starts but then in the middle of the jaw it becomes blurry. Also maybe add some more of that dark brown on the lowest part of his jaw. Sorry if I'm not very good at explaining.
Anyways this is a pretty awesome drawing.

Yeah, I think you are right about the beard part! Thanks very much for that! I'm glad I put it out there, because feedback is precious haha. I think you explained very well. Enough for me to understand anyway!

Thanks for the comment!

Thank you! Yeah, I like turning them realistic or to put them in uncommon situations It gives a fresh chance from what the manga or anime usually shows

sonofa... damn... this is great! O.O
A beard? Really? well, if i squint yeah i suppose. Jut a guess but perhaps a tiny bit more of a dark edge around the curve of his chin would help? (not that i think it looks that beardish and in fact i woudn't have noticed had you not suggested it) There's a whisp of a line which should be erased just around his chin, or not. Either way i like his chin. Or perhaps you meant inward a bit? If that's the case, what about a little bit of smudging? I mean the barest of smudging of course.
Well, i bet none of that would help.
Hell, far as i'm concerned it's great. He's f****** hot and if you do more Grimmjow, i'm in line to see it.  O.O

Yeah, perhaps that dark edge around his chin would help, I'm not sure. I erased a bit there, that's why it's so pale lol. I thought his chin was a bit too forward. I dislike erasing actually coloured parts so much, lol. I should have just kept quiet probably, but I really wanted to get some feedback on it You are right, though. It's really not that bad, I guess

I love Grimmjow. Totally can't wait till he makes his comeback in the manga! Probably I will do some more fanart of Bleach, because it's just kickass. But I'll have a lot other art related stuff up as well

Thanks a lot for the comment!
