Hi im from artist hospital

In order to shade you have to grasp the landscape
For instance the lighting you choose is a upper right, sorta behind the character light (or is it just the side?)

If its a side lighting then there would be a shadow casting from where the arm is since its blocking light across the chest. The character's right shoulder would only have lighting on the outer edge since its geting farther from the light source.

It also applys to the detail in the pictures aswell like the pockets on his vest would cast a shadow on the opposite side of where the light is showing.

When it comes to skin, anatomy is key ( anatomy is really key for everything )
Adding folds to clothing can create more detail and more shading areas, different lighting etc...

Just keep in mind on how you position you character and if you have a action figure or something you could us it to help you a little by trying the same pose (if possible) and puting light on the side you want to mimic and get any idea of how it looks. Dont try to be TOO detailed at first, just start off with some simple shading blocks and once you get better then get more detailed.

I visual would probally help more but text will have to do, I hope this was a little bit helpful.

Hello! I'm from the *ArtistsHospital , and I'm here to offer a little bit of help on shading for you!

Shading is one of the things I had the most trouble with when I started working with either Photoshop or traditional pieces. I'm not a traditional artist by much, but I can offer you all the help I can. I have a tutorial, it's a photoshop tutorial, but it may help a little bit. ([link] )

When it comes to shading, picture the way the light is hitting the object. Because, as most know, some things will not be shown more than others. So when it first comes of to shading, picture the direection of the light. Is it behind the object? To the left? Right? Think of where your light sorce is that way you know which things will be highlighted and which things will not. I took a browse through some sites and found this tuorial worked very well for understanding shading and some tips to help you to do it correctly. ([link] )

I hope I have been some help to you. And this picture is wonderful. You shading needs a little touching up, but it works well with this picture and you did a great job! I'm not into Nartuo quite yet, I'm still learning a little bit about it. Heh, maybe you can even assist me about Naruto! Just kidding, again, I hope I helped a little bit. Please let me know if you need anymore help! I will do the best I can to continue to assist you

We get out on the 5th. Oh dear... Hm, I might have a little bit of trouble getting people to come... I leave for Interlochen on the 24th. If I can get people to come around the 20th or something, do you want to come? I mean, you'd be a great mystery guest! *goes off and plans the party*

gradient is going from one color to another gradually; it blends. not sure how to explain.
