Slash is an interesting character. My sense is that he not only fights for his people, he fights to perfect himself as a warrior. There is no maliciousness in his actions. Only a cold determination to succeed through training and discipline. If Slash has any weakess, it is that he is a slave to form - to his own technique with the blade. Crono recognizes this fact while fighting him and adjusts his technique to compensate for Slash's superior skill. The proud Slash is confused and humbled when his "perfect" technique is unable to overcome the young Crono, and he is forced to withdraw.
