Wow JL!
This looks great! I like the way you have modeled the skin and the eyes. It's so hard to go in with a strong enough color scheme in order to cover the black without "messing" it up with fingerprints and oils. I think you did a fine job on this piece. I'm sure you will win!
Thanks for your hard work in TA too!

Sounds good JL!
It may or may not win, but the good part is the feeling you got when you completed another step. You know how much artists need to keep moving forward, if we don't we end up looking back and wondering if it was worth the struggle. It is, and the proof is obvious if you meet someone who wasn't chosen by art.

I know that too. A lot of people think they will go in and just be a good teacher. It's a lot of work, long road ahead, but all my teachers contribute to the theory that I would be one of the one's who really sticks to it. I've always been one anyway, not a taught one, but one who shares experience. When I took classes at university most of my fellow students would come to me for help long before they asked the teachers. I spend a lot of my time learning different activities that would help me achieve my goal. Being a critique contributor is one of those things I have desired to do because it will give me experience in the field. Being able to critique work is one thing you really do need to be successful.

true. administration is always "fun" to deal with. There's a teacher I know who has been a teacher for 50 years. About 25 at that specific university. She tried over and over to get the admin to replace things that were broken, or fix issues like the "sparking outlet" in the art lab.
It sucks, but hopefully the university where I will be earning my degree will stand by their agreement to hire me after I earn the degrees. I also hope that they have administration that I can "stand".

Aye. Always have a plan B. I'm sure I'll think of one when I get closer to finishing my first degree. I already have bits of experience teaching as a volunteer, and for my odd professors who need an upper classmen to help teach various newbies or sort paper work. I've always tended to dive into books and forums to learn handy techniques and then I usually just "bring my head" back into the class to share what's inside it. That's probably why I want to do it professionally. It's one thing to do work as a student volunteer but a completely different thing to do it with the earned title.
But for now, I am firstly "artist" and second "wishful teacher".
