Childhood friends and paranormal investigators Chris, Katie, and Nate, have been offered the opportunity of a lifetime, scoring positions on a cryptid expedition to the isolated Putorana Plateau of Siberia. After being recruited by the Aurora Institute of London, the trio eagerly sets out to explore a rarely-seen part of the world. But their excitement turns to dread when the team is ambushed by ravenous creatures utterly different from what they expected to find. After the surprise attack claims the lives of their teammates, the friends are captured and carried off to an abandoned Soviet-era complex. Soon after, Nate and Kate helplessly watch the cruel murder of Chris, leaving the two as the last survivors. Their hope evaporates, knowing they are next. But with the arrival of dawn, a weird foulmouthed American inexplicitly appears and rescues the two. With the boats and communications equipment destroyed in the attack, they place their hopes of survival on hiking to the remote research station Zoryagrosk. The pair become prey in a terrifying game of cat and mouse across mountainous taiga at the onset of winter. The inexperienced survivors lack the wilderness and mountaineering experience of their slaughtered teammates. The two must now rely on the more knowledgeable stranger to reach their destination and call the Institute for help. But with her strange eyes and supernatural strength, their savior may be one of the monsters.
