Description Working on that sketch... Jayli finally looks like she's supposed to for once! Anyways... yeah... I'm having fun with this one...

Poses referenced from/inspired by [link] and [link] . I insist on colouring without reference, though. Adobe PhotoShop 7.0. 20. ~5 hours?

wow, I really want to see the finished piece! You took the reference poses and made them completely your own, I love that. I really like the colors you are using too. I can't wait to see what Luke will look like

Thank you very much I tried very hard to "make them my own" - because I referenced the pose, I insist on now using no references at all for colouring/composition/details X3.

Mm, Luke X3 Yeah, I'm leaving him for now - I tried blocking some colours in the other day, but they didn't turn out satisfactorily, so I'll try again some other time.

The pose is awsome. You did a great job on the colours and her hair. Beautiful. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done.

Thank you very much The pose was referenced, actually (the link to it is included), but I insisted on doing composition and colouring and detailing and such completely without references.

I like how the dress fabric looks like the night sky

Thank you Yeah, it's going to be kind of a surreal picture, where parts of the sky will be showing up in the clothing... The stars is part of Jayli's, and the clouds are mostly part of Luke's... but they blend into each other.

By the way, will you be getting in your contest entry on time? Or have you given up? Or do you need more time?

Cool - someone else asked for the deadline to be extended, too, so you're in luck.

Really awsome ^_^ I like that transparent part of her (cloak is it?) going out behind her. Kinda looks like wings too hehe Well, if this is the sketch, then i can't wait to see the finished result! Looks awsome

jocarra In reply to dmyamiyugi [2006-01-02 20:02:55 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thanks... The transparent-looking cloak (with the clouds) is not actually transparent, but like the inner/lower cloak, will have images from the sky in it. There are going to be two characters (as seen in the original sketch in my scraps) - Jayli represents the night and has the starry cloak, and Luke represents the day, and will have clouds in his. However, the part in the middle blends from one into the other, which is why it looks the way it does right now... does that make sense?

what do u mean by referenced?

jocarra In reply to special-me [2006-01-02 19:53:30 +0000 UTC]

A reference is any other picture or real life example that serves as a guide.

Whoa, that looks brilliant! Can't wait for the final version!

Anyway, what settings do you use for the smudge?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to YamiZoe [2006-01-02 11:46:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

What settings for the smudge?? I use the airbrush to get the colours to blend together (like on the arms, and clothes), and use the airbrush with tweaked settings for the hair (check out my basic colouring tutorial in my gallery, it describes it) - I only use smudge if details are too harsh or if things need additional blending. In that case, I use an appropriately sized brush with a smudge setting anywhere from 20-100% depending on what I like.
