A Halloween-y image for you, just a few days late for Halloween. But Halloween was pretty much cancelled here in Brooklyn, so who's keeping track anymore? This is actually the next in two separate series I'm working on.

First, I'm starting a character series to keep myself active. This is just a personal challenge: my goal is to make one original drawing of a classic trope each week. For instance, one week I might draw a cowboy, the next week maybe a vampire, the week after that a space man, on and on until I run out of ideas. This seemed like a very attainable goal when I thought it up a few weeks ago, but then I had a freelance project kick into overdrive, and now suddenly I don't seem to have any time to work on it : So the character series will update whenever I can manage, but I'm still hoping for weekly.

Before Halloween I had decided I to start the series off with a witch, because there are so many ways to interpret what a witch can be. Then I read a Techgnotic article about witches and my mind was made up.

My other goal with this this one is to teach myself digital painting. I've been working on my use of color in my personal illustration lately, and I decided that I should just dive headlong into paintings. I've dabbled in digital paintings before on freelance projects, but never really in my personal work. I had some small understanding of the basics of digital painting techniques, but I have to tell you, I was led to Drew Greene's gouache brush tutorial and it changed my life.

Also, usually I get my textures from CG Textures but this time I got it from here .
