I love the expression you've given him, and especially appreciate how closely you stayed mostly true to Tolkien original design.

That is really incredible. Β The posture and setting are just excellent. Β And the fact that I'm listening to Over the Misty Mountains Cold just as Smaug enters has nothing to do with my sudden obsession I assure you. *Shifty Look*

no, not Smaug, I will complain to all Smaug "artists" he is lion faced, furry cheeks and fur down his spin, missing a scale on his chest, VERY red, cat eared and has an under bite.

This is beyond awesome!
Would you mind if I use this in my YouTube Video along with my music "Mist from the depths"(dwarven temple)?
Credit will surely be given, but I thought to seek your approval first

Hi,
I'm afraid I can't give you permission to use this - Middle-earth Enterprises are the people you'd need to contact, and I think as they are such busy people you'd have to be realistic about the likelihood of getting a response. Thank you for asking though, I very much appreciate the courtesy.

In general I like this a lot. You have great skill and I think you really capture the spirit of Smaug. However, you made the comment about using JRRT's drawings as inspiration and I must point out that his Smaug had a thicker and shorter neck then what you've got going here. I actually recently posted about this here: [link] I don't mind what you've got - I'm just on a bit of a cruesade lately to debunk the idea that Tolkien's version Smaug had a long snake-like neck. He had a long tail and body, but a fairly short and thick neck. Again, great work and thank you for sharing!

Ahh nostalgia ^^ This picture brings me back to the discussion Smaug and Bilbo had when the little hobbit sneaked into his keep. That happened right? I haven't read the book since i was 13, but it was magical. Great artwork!

Beautiful! Looks just like a traditional painting. I love the textures and the light. And you did a great job with the updated design. Definitely fits the character. The narrow glowing eye shows his malicious intelligence just as well as the pursed lips do.

Great work, you can definitely see influences from Tolkien's paintings. You did a great job on updating. I can see him giving a laugh as soon as he finishes.

I love your depiction of Smaug! He certainly seems evil- but cleverly so.
Design-wise I really enjoy how you left the two sides of the image loose, to bring the viewers eye in onto the focal point of the image.
