Description Today has become the day for sketchdumps

Now when I was a kid "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" was one of my favorite shows. It was just really good. This was long before I started collecting comics. I did watch the original 70's Spider-Man series, y'know, the one with THE song (yeah, I'm that old ) but it was HAF that I really learned about Spidey. So it was also my introduction to Firestar and Ice Man. Now I've seen the show recently when they reran it on the Family Channel serveral years ago, and you can probably find all the episodes on youtube. But I was surprised at how fine they drew Firestar back then . Most animated series today seem to do everything in their power to keep female characters from looking like ... well, females (they are afraid of the womanly curves )

It wouldn't be until years later that I realized they drew Angelica almost exactly like John Romita (the good one, not Jr. ) drew Mary Jane in the comic.

Anyway, I think these are the only Firestar drawings I've ever done. I had to draw her in her classic "Spider Friends" outfit, of course. The second outfit was what she was wearing in either "The New Warriors" or "The Avengers", I don't really remember.

I had also seen a few episodes of the old Spider-Woman animated series but I hardly remember those. The very first comic books I ever bought, (I was probaby eleven or twelve) were issues 7, 8, and 9 of "Secret Wars" (they were sold in a pack at a toy store). Issue 7 is where they introduced the second Spider-Woman with the black costume. Of course the very next issue they gave Spidey almost the exact same outfit, which would later become Venom.

Love the Firestar pics. I am a huge fan of hers and yes, they did deviate away from the womanly curves that brought us to these wonderful women for a while. Also, you are not the only one that used to watch the old Spidey shows (I'm old enough to have been fortunate enough to watch them as well). Back when shows were more than just beat em up, blow up the world crap. The shows actually had a message in them.

I was able to watch the entire series of "Thundarr the Barbarian" last year (thank you Boomerang ), for the first time in like 20 years and again, I was surprised how "womanly" Ariel was drawn Of course we can't forget all the lovely ladies from He-Man and She-Ra

No doubt. Shows like She-Ra had curvacious women that could kick butt. On the flip side we also had shows like Jem. While the women weren't as curvacious, they had that femininity to them that make you think, "I could date her if she were real." Then you had JB from BraveStarr. She looked like a man with a rounded (instead of square) chest.

I actually did watch Jem. It would show right after GI Joe so I just never changed the channel. And it was pretty cool. It needed more violence though I never did watch many episodes of Bravestarr, but I remember it being almost exactly like He-Man, character-wise. The villains were more goofy than threatening and the hero wasn't allowed to punch anyone in the face

There was some face punching in BraveStarr. I actually got a hold of the series (via torrent). There is face punchin here and there, but it is few and far in between.

I recall the classic Spider-Man series. Firestar was one of my favorites, and yes, they did draw her very fine (which I can say in retrospect lol).

You should draw her more. *hint hint wink wink nudge nudge*

Great stuff here! Firestar has always been a favorite, and she hasn't gotten nearly enough love over the years! (And I agree about Spider-Man and his amazing friends, they did draw her pretty fine back then!) Also, Spider Woman II is another character you don't really see too often. I remember her from the Iron-Man cartoon years ago, and of course from the Avengers books. (I believe she was in West Coast Avengers for a spell.) Great stuff!

Thanks.

Spider-Woman II did jump around the Marvel 'verse quite a bit. She even had a short limited series once (which I think I got). And I didn't know she was in the Iron Man cartoon. I'll have to look into that But it's been about ten years since I collected comic books regularly and it looks like they brought back the original Spider-Woman, even though she died way back when her comic book in the 80s was cancelled, so I'm not sure what's been going on with Spider-Woman II. I suppose I could wiki her
