Can you do one for traditional drawing/drawing with a pencil and paper? Β I don't do digital art anymore! Β I used to, but my program doesn't have squat and I can't get anything else because I have a school computer. Β But this is very helpful. Β

Sorry no I can't. I work mostly digital.

It's ok! Β You can't help it that you mostly do digital! Β Well, you can, but it's what you prefer, so I'm not going to ask you to change it for me. Β

Awesome work! Really loved the explanation.
Do you have some advice for someone who wants to start with digital art?

Thats a very broad question. Do you mean use of the technology? Or actual painting? Because if its just getting better, that just comes in time with practice and learning. I'm obviously still learning myself lol.Β

I just use photoshop and a wacon cintiq 22hd. First things I painted where whatever I fancied. But as time went on I tried to learn specific things and understand certain techniques. Best tip is to just draw as much as possible and study. Applied studies to your work.Β

Your cylinder ellipse axes are in the wrong rotation.
Just sayin.

what do you mean? it was to show brush direction?
π: 0 β©: 1
moooncube In reply to JoshSummana [2016-11-13 13:13:55 +0000 UTC]
Yes the brush direction is fine, I'm talking about the front ellipse that closes off the cylinder. Its minor axis should point to the second vanishing point, following the direction of the cylinder. Basic 2pt perspective. No big deal, just wrong.
Scott Robertson explains it very well in "How to Draw", which you probably own like most of us, or you can read through this if you don't: online.sfsu.edu/trogu/420/refeβ¦

Yeah that's fine lol. It took like 2 minutes to do, I wasnt super focused about doing a correct cylinder, it was to explain something else.

I'm actually using a technique close to this I just learned but I like your approach as well. So many tools I still don't know in Photoshop. Pay out the ass to go to school to learn this and learn 100% more for free on the net because of awesome people like yourself. That's life I guess.Β
I need to experiment with this color dynamics. Could be a huge solution.Β

Cheers, im glad it helped! Colour dynamics is awesome for getting all the subtle hue shifts quickly. Thats the only reason i use it. it will look messy but its easy to fix up rather than try and do it all TOTALLY manually.Β

This is gonna help me a lot. I usually had problems when painting. I can paint very well on a practice sphere, but on other work is where I struggle at for some reason.
