Description ARX ships modeled by my friend, ArielNova, in Hexagon and Vue. The large background ships are Mon Calamari Cruisers from scifi3d.com (slightly tweaked and stretched by me in Vue).

Rendered in Vue 7; post production in PhotoShop.

Image title from a song by Iron & Wine. The song itself has nothing to do with this image, but I thought it was appropriate for this scene. I imagined that I was a pilot in one of those ships on the way to a battle, pausing for a brief moment to appreciate the beauty of the setting sun; only to forget about it a minute later when I'm back in battle-mode.

I sometimes will do the DOF in Photoshop, but on this one I used the blur feature in Vue, with the focus on the ship in the foreground. It's a little tricky to get just right in v7.

The motion blur was done in Photoshop using Layer Mask. In the past I'd animate the objects that I wanted to blur, but that's a pain in the ass to get just right and it adds a whole new layer of time if you couple it with DOF in Vue. SOOOO much simpler to manually do it in PS. For this one I made three different masks, each one with lower levels of blur for the ground blur, and I used it on some of the ships to give them motion and to simulate them traveling at different speeds.

I keep this little notepad on my desk and when I see a song title or find an interesting phrase I'll jot it down. That title caught my eye about six months ago, so I'm glad I was finally able to use it! Glad someone else liked it too!
