the third chakra is prevalent throughout most of your work and it gives your work a deep spiritual meaning. Its like so much more than psychedelia, its like a whole spiritual epiphany (but who am i kidding, theres really no difference between the two, haha). Mystifying!!!!

They can be closely intertwined at times. I don't paint it unless it feels like an epiphany... so you could imagine, the challenge of finding ideas.... it's often times when I don't try, when I enter the now, and just have fun mindlessly drawing... very meditative.... then magic things happen....

Wonderful painting! I love how the 2 normal eyes are turned off and the eye of the mind on the forehead is opened, even though I haven't experienced that from "it"

Gotta buy the next canvas somehow! If you ever like a piece of mine that's in progress (but you like the way it is) and you want to own it, let me know and I'll put the brush down. I generally work in color but I've sold a piece mid way through before.

I'm a poor muddafucka. Do wips sell for less? and how much do they cost?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JRSlattum In reply to Drolomehet [2011-03-04 01:59:41 +0000 UTC]

They cost the same... generally between $300-500. I do payment plans too.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF? EXPENSIVENESSHOLYSHIT?
I won't be able to afford that, ever, lol. How big are they?
What's a payment plan?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JRSlattum In reply to Drolomehet [2011-03-05 22:24:39 +0000 UTC]

Haha... that's actually really modest for an original piece of art, my friend. They always go up in value too. And I'm not rolling rich or anything, I still rent a flat. Usually my work is between 11x14inches up to 22x28inches, sometimes 30x40 but that's rare. Payment plan is paying a small fraction of the piece's price to lock it down, then make small payments to me every so often until you've paid for the piece and it's yours.

I'm sorry, I've never bought artwork before. Not trying to say your art isn't worth a lot, but yeah. Good thing there's plans and crap because that's how much my damn guitar cost. And it's good >_>
Next christmas I might save some money to buy one. Hows the shipping and shit work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JRSlattum In reply to Drolomehet [2011-03-06 03:36:51 +0000 UTC]

I'd rather you buy a guitar and create, but that's your call. On the other hand, it's nice to fill your creative areas with creative stimulus... I always have music blasting. Shipping is pretty chill. Safety-wise, I've shipped to Canada, London, even Australia with no problem. Price-wise it really depends on the size of the piece. Customs does charge a pick-up fee too!

Drolomehet In reply to JRSlattum [2011-03-06 05:23:18 +0000 UTC]

I already bought a guitar and I won't be needing another any time soon ^-^
SO yeah, I'll probably try to order a smaller one after christmas or something. I'm in far-south Canada, few hours from New York State, So shipping will surely be delicious. Is painting all you do for a living? That'd be great. Out of curiousity, how long have you been paintimg, did you take lessons? Skills of your caliber CERTAINLY Must've taken decades. Also, checked your profile. Funny thing, first time I saw one of your painting I thought of Tool. Work reflects the inspiration, eh? (Not deliberate use because I'm canadian. I just use it slightly frequently.) What's a color study?

JRSlattum In reply to Drolomehet [2011-03-06 06:31:28 +0000 UTC]

I wish I was Canadian, you guys got things figured out... I'm not proud of the direction my country has taken.
Yeah, I paint for a living. It can be very stressful, especially when your bills depend on your creativity and yet your creativity needs no stress. But, I, yeah man, I love it... worth the blood, sweat and tears... very gratifying. I've been painting for about 5 years now, however I've drawn since the age of 4 (and that's the secret to a good painting). I do like the subject matter with which TOOL works. Constructive anger driving humanity to examine its own behavior and hopefully strive for a full potential. Color studies are like mini-painting test-runs. Color is the biggest obstacle when it comes to a painting (outside of concept), so it's nice to tweak with colors on small canvas or in photoshop to get things right. Saves time and headache later on, and aides to a more complete masterpiece.

I like canada. Kind of bugs me that a lot of americans think we're just americas unsuccessful cousin that lives in an igloo and says 'eh?' at the end of every sentence.

I can see why painting for a living would be harder then music, once you become successful in music one song can make you millions, one painting can only get you one flat price and that's it. Plus if one were to expect art like the stuff you make every time inspiration would be hard to find. Well, that's great. Doing something you love for a living. Keep it up

JRSlattum In reply to Drolomehet [2011-03-08 04:52:09 +0000 UTC]

Bah! I say Americans are generally full of themselves, ignorant to the point where they don't know any better but still insist they're #1.

Well... I do produce prints. I can make an original, then sell museum-quality reproductions... and I do. But yes- finding ideas and concepts is the hardest part. Anyway, I'll keep doing what I do!
