Description This is the first page of Ularium Octate (tentative title), a graphic novel I'm working on. It is the prologue to the story that is to come.

Personal Comment:

I believe this is something that hasn't been done before. If at any time during the story you feel you've heard of anything like this or if anything reminds you of another work, please let me know.

Tools Used:

Drawn with pencil, inked with pigment liners, shaded with a gray prismacolor marker, scanned, edited and pieced together in Photoshop.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, I was having trouble shading with cross-hatching and all that, so I do what I usually do when I have trouble with something: I do something else, lol.

I'm curious, did you make the tones or download them? I get a bottle of ink and water and make something of a wash, or just make an abstract watercolor and scan it for use as tones sometimes. Either way is cool though, you clearly know how to make use of them.

Anyway, the story is great. Pretty cinematic for a prologue.

Actually, I have this marker that I use. It's gray Prismacolor with both a fine and broad tip to it. It's useful for shading stuff without having to cross-hatch and the like. What's weird is, the way it scans makes it look more like watercolor than marker. I'm not sure why it does that.

Thanks for the kind words, Bret. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Excellent! I'm not always to keen on comic type art but I actually want to see more of this. I really like the style of illustration...the black and white works very well and I love the blotchy filling in and crisp outlining. The content is great...The story is definitely appealing. Presentation also great...I like the way you have placed the text...it looks neat and not is not in the way.
Nothing bad to say!

Looking interesting.

You're style of art is very unique. I've never seen anything similar. Or maybe that's just because I have such a cartoonish style.

Thanks a lot, yeah, I've heard that it takes a long time before you develop your own style. I've tried lots of things out before getting to this point... I'm still not entirely pleased with it, but it's the best I am able to do with the tools I have available.
