Description I submitted the previous as a DeviantID and I wasn't sure if it would show up in my gallery so this is just to make sure it does! ;D

A new Deviant ID, inspired by Prometheus That movie was awesome!

Also, I used a photo reference which had fake scars all down the side and a black eye so I had to make up a lot of the lighting.

I hope you like it!

Crit welcome!!

Did you start this in Black and White?

Yeah, I was originally planning on doing selective colour (only around the lights) but then I got carried away haha.

Yea.

The hue of yellow-green seems to not be working, and it looks like you just soft brushed on top of your skin the "light hotspots" and haven't adjusted for the subsurface scattering that would occur when such an intense light would hit from the bottom of your face. It's harder and takes longer to have to adjust for subsurface scattering, but it'll make the image look better.

The hair looks evenly lit, which seems to be in contrast with the scenes given lighting situation. That and you detailed every single hair, which seems unnecessary. And the shadow portions of your face seemed to only been crushed to black and not a different color entirely. (i.e red with natural light hitting it might have light value areas closer to orange.)

and the lips feel incredibly flat, with the way you lit them. They lack volume and curve.

and the specular highlight @ the eyes is not reflecting the fact that the light is coming from beneath him and not in front of him.

If you do hair next time, treat it as one volume, think of it sort of like manga illustration, and THEN add necessary strands and value information

practice doing this all in greyscale first. It might be easier since lights/values seem to be giving you trouble. Color confuses things when the values aren't set in correctly.

Thanks for the help, I will try to change things in my next image! I haven't really done hair before so it was a new thing (i didn't really know where to highlight or what detail).
