Description The Greenland Anomaly, as seen on top, resembles a massive gold rectangular bar half embedded under the snow, and it is about 80-90 kilometers in length. It has sparked a number of online debates as to what this colossal "object" could be. But it has since been dismissed it as simply being a graphical artifact caused by satellite imaging. To this date, no one has ventured into the exact location of the object in order to verify if there's really anything there. Furthermore, the image of the object has been expunged clean from Google Earth as to this date, leaving no trace of it. If indeed it is a tangible object, it is unknown if it's part of a much larger megastructure hidden deep beneath the surface.

Just my own imaginatively-fanciful rendition of the mysterious object spotted deep in Greenland's ice plains via Google Earth. It's very Lovecraftian. I just felt like it warrants some creative storytelling to it. If you're curious as to what this thing is, just go to Google and type in "Greenland Object" into the search bar, and go into the image search section. You'll see it immediately on top. Don't bother going into Google Earth. It's no longer there.

Out of all modern Lovecraftian works I've seen over a period of about 15 years, this makes the cut as one of few that appear very close to the author's original style and manner of description. The shapes are simple, the object in question is clearly visible and out in the bright daylight, and yet the impression of unnaturally inflicted macrophobia is immediate. That it is rendered in the almost cozy style of Foss and Elson only makes the terror more apparent and all the more uncanny.

Well done. Well done indeed.

Thanks for mentioning Foss and Elson. I've been looking for the names of those cool retro sci fi artworks I've been seeing all these while.

You are very welcome. Foss and Elson tend to be the centerpieces, with Syd Mead, Ron Cobb and Ralph McQuarrie coming in as having made great contributions to a similar style, but it being a smaller part of their portfolio.
Some rather unexpected names come up when you dig deeper into it, even including Boris Vallejo who painted some really stylish Elsonean covers in the early 80's.
Hope those names might be useful in the future.

I love it. Love it love it love it. In the original story that was the basis for "The Thing", "Who Goes There?" by John W Campbell Jr., the Thing is a crew member of a spaceship some Antarctic explorers find under the ice. They melt it out with thermite and accidentally set fire to the spaceship, which is made of magnesium. This is what the scene might have looked like if they had melted the spaceship out instead!

thanks! Probably just an image artifact from the satellite imaging. But who knows for sure.

It could just be a image glitch.
But then I've heard that very strange things are happening in places like that!
