I like this too; your style painting brings to mind Lucian Freud.

I would add it to my faves. but that area is reserved for nude art so I can censor bypass in the school library.

I'm really happy to see an image of an older woman featured in a DD - it's a refreshing change from normal. From the thumbnail, I thought this was a photograph, but was tickled pink when I saw that it's a painting. Very good work.

This is awesome! I love it..it's so well done, and I love it..because it's not perfect. No human is perfect, yet people tend to paint/draw/CG them without any flaws whatsoever (I'm guilty of the same thing). And it's refreshing to look at a painting of a person with wrinkles... And it's refreshing to look at a painting of a person who's not undering flattering lighting.

did you paint this form life or did you use a photograph?

Stunning. I absolutely adore the thought that you put into this, which is more than evident in the description. Thought is a dying art. Props.

Nice work with the shadows. I can't see what you saw, obviously, so I don't know how to evaluate the ridges of the vertical bones at the base of her neck, and the horizontals, especially on the viewer's left. Perhaps she runs to thinness, and too, the harsh light might have made her features appear more "pointed" than they normally would.
I'm trying to reach here for comments that would possibly help. Your work is intended to be somewhat impressionistic, as the hair readily shows. Given that, I'd have to say this is a pretty good painting. It's unfortunate that the top of her head is cut off, but I'm sure you have/had your reasons for constructing the picture that way.
I don't see a lot of painting here (more interested in photography), but this one caught my eye right away. The colors work well together...but as I said as the beginning, it's the shadow work that really imparts quality to the entire ensemble. Congratulations.

I think its the hard light more then anything giving those effects. The overall composition had to be the right shape to be a Cd cover, with a logo and title down one side, which accounts for the shape, and is why I croped the head that way, also it had to be an image that was striking at cd cover size, so more of a close up then I usually go towards. I float between fairly expressive painting, and far tighter realism, depending on my mood mostly, this is on the more more realist end of my scale, but as you noted still some impressionist stuff there, can't quite bring myself to go to extreme realism, I feel a painting needs to look like a painting, not a photo.
Thanks for the feedback, been trying to get to reply, had a mountian of comments with the DD, as you do I guess.
Have fun

Damned good, regardless of whether you think you're a genius or not.
Usually I don't look at featured deviations because to me it's a bit unfair, that whole feature system, but yours was just too beautiful to ignore. It has a raw feeling to it. I like it a lot. I love it.

Regardless of how well you survive, an artist of your caliber should be able to say anything (s)he wishes, don't you think? There are so few of you.
