Description Took some fun pics of my frog today..enjoy!

African bullfrog - AKA Pixie frog-
The Pixie Frog, also known as the "African Bullfrog," is a native of Sub-Saharan Africa and one of the largest frogs in the world.

Pixie Frogs are large and voracious eaters. In the wild and in captivity, they will be active both day and night. Since the males are quite large, they can often scare away predators, but when confronted, they can inflict a painful (though non-toxic) bite. Males are also known for their deep and throaty call, which can be heard at any time of day.

Male Pixies will typically reach a length of about 8 inches and females about 4 inches, though Pixies larger than 8 inches are not that uncommon. Their circumference varies by sex, some of them reaching up to 9 inches.

I think I'm in love. He is so pretty! I used to have some captive wild frogs. Are these guys hard to keep? I have never seen one in a pet store.

This picture really shows off just how large he is. I like that he's crushing the tiny sprounts.

I don't find them hard to keep..i got this guy when he was the size of my thumbnail!

I have a 18x18 terrarium with a small plastic divider in the middle, on one side of the divider I piled up gravel, the other side is filled with water (about 5 inches or so deep) I have a submersible pump/filter in the water and the out coming water I have going through a hose, through a hole in the divider, then under the gravel finally pumping out on a waterfall on the far side of the gravel. This way the water is also being filtered by the gravel before its gets to the pump. I only have to take it apart like once a year and give everything a good scrub.

They eat everything, especially when they are growing. I grew mine up on a diet mostly of gold fish. He has never caught them himself, I toss the fish in front of him on the gravel. I also feed mice and superworms. Not so much on the mice cause then his poop is like FOWL. lol.

One of my fav pets. Easy to keep- no vet bills...I loves him.
