"Yeni Γeri" ? I've heard that those were kidnapped boys from the nations under Ottoman rule. It's called "blood taxes" here in Bulgaria ΠΎr "devshirme"(don't know how its written in turkish) and it's known that at certain times little boys would be stolen to be taught the Quran and to be trained their whole life to become soldiers. There's even a famous story that a mother met her son again who was now a man and a janissary. She recognized him by the mark he had left by a horse's bite when his true parents hid him in the barn from a turkish officer.
