Description I feel like I'm taking a huge leap of faith here with this image (and all things considered, I think that's saying something).

As I think the image successfully conveys on its own, this was pure torture - far, far beyond what I had anticipated, and I expected it to be absolutely awful.  But, it's been something on my artistic bucket list for some time.  I just wasn't sure it was even possible, and I'm still not.  As the photo was taken today, i guess I'm still sort of in shock, if that suggests anything.

I don't know if this photo is useful, but I'd like to think it could be, and will certainly hope it will be.  I also hope it will be accepted within the context of 'artistic trust' that I am sharing it from.  Obviously, I haven't recently written anywhere near this much with my image submissions.

This type of torture, using nails instead of rope, was horrific as I understand.
You have done an apt job of simulating it in a reasonable way and I suspect it was not pleasant even as you did it.

I think I understand it as horrific torture also, certainly now, if I didn't before.  I thought I was prepared for it.  I was wrong.  Not pleasant doesn't really scratch the surface.  I don't think I care to contemplate what difference nails would make.  And, I expect, it would eventually be fatal either way.  I also now know, quite personally, that the tortured would very likely be hoping for death not long after it began.

This is a breath-taking shot.  Nudity combined with religion is always a powerful and sometimes contentious combination.  By giving us a detailed narrative we are able to appreciate [in some small way] how you have "suffered" for your art.  This is a very thought-provoking piece of work, and one of which you should be very proud.  Thank you for sharing this work.

Thanks for your support, kind words and appreciation (and ). I did realize with the religious overtones I was potentially opening myself up here. Perhaps ironically, I consider myself agnostic at this point, and as the title suggests (with probably multiple connotations), consider this more simply "reality", which regard to the subject (of crucifixion). I leave the religous to work through their own resulting internal struggles, if they have any. I definitely struggled in my own way, and in a seriously physically demanding, if not tormented, way in the moments of creating this. That much I know for certain.

It is so marked, and always was.  It will not be censored, especially not that way.  I struggle to understand how or why an image, with the reality of this content, would find that part of it the most in need of censorship.

If you are bothered, you should check your settings that allow you to view "mature content".

Obviously, I didn't die in the process, but I think I learned much more personally and directly why someone in the actual position (of being crucified) would wish they were dead instead.

Oh crikey I took a picture of myself naked up a tree last week... That shocked me too when I did it and despite the minor bruises and scrapes I got for my troubles this looks more painful. Gotta give you credit for the effort you put into this one not to mention the discomfort!

Well, I've been naked in a few trees in my time, and with absolutely no disrespect intended, this is a whole different league that I honestly found myself dreadfully unprepared for in the actual moment, and even when I'd hoped I was.

Not long. I think the photographer and I were both scared. I was there just long enough for him to take a number of photos. This was the last photo. By the time I looked like this he was taking me down. Thank God (and I'm agnostic )

That said, we are already talking about trying it again, with better ankle bindings and a better camera. I doubt it will happen soon, if it does. Among other issues, I need some time to heal up first.
