Sometimes I really need to redraw old things. It's a very truthful way of finding out which skills have developed and which still need more work, and shows the direction that one's art has taken.I remember thinking 'oh this turned out real nice
' when finishing the first version in 2012... now I'm just looking at it like 'how did I ever even consider that to be a finished painting?'I focused on getting her skintone right this time, and creating more depth and atmosphere to the new piece. The old one was just so flat it hurts...

There's indeed much more life in the new version - much more depth and atmosphere. Especially her expression is a vast improvement on the original I think, as it divulges more of her personality than the previous version did. This is truly beautiful
