Description
Nicknamed by those who wielded it as 'Thumper', 'Bloop Tube' and many others by the Americans and the 'Wombat Gun' by the Aussies, the M79 is a 40mm grenade launcher that uses a 'High-Low System' originally developed by the Germans in WW2 and perfected in the US as part of it's Project Niblick program in the 1960's, the M79 saw a lot action through the Vietnam War, with some units (including the US Navy SEALs) making 'Pirate Gun' configurations, where the barrel and stock were sawn-off to make it resemble a modern-day version of the Pirate flintlock, while nowadays replaced by both underslung launchers (i.e. the M203 and M320 grenade launchers) and rotary grenade launchers (i.e. the M32 MGL), the M79 still sees use in niche roles (primarily special forces).
