Odd bit of trivia about the giants owls we here, known locally as Mountain Brown Owls. A pair has had a next in a large pine tree not far away for a couple of years now, and when they are teaching their young to fly the begin by gliding/half flying from their nest to the top of my chimney, which is very high. Not only do these massive owls make a lot of noise as they hit the rain plate on top of the chimney, they often have lengthy and loud arguments with their young when they are up there. Who knew that owls have terrible tempers!

I don't want to make generalizations about all owls, but the monsters we have here sometimes seem to need a class in anger management.
Interesting wildlife intervention earlier tonight. Someone called Animal Control about foxes loitering about their house, and they asked us to look into it. It was, mind you, a whole -4 degrees C at the time. we found two little grey foxes that had made a den in some shrubs next to the vent from a dryer. Foxes - cute and clever! This is actually not the first time we've encountered this. So the lesson is that you should never marry a wildlife veterinarian unless you don't mind going out on cold nights.
