Description Botflies.

Giant mutated Botflies who drop their eggs on society so the little buggers can burrow deep into the human body. Eventually they will chew their way out and grow into even bigger mutated Botflies.

Done with ink and my quills. I will be creating a second, colored entry using bits and pieces of this picture.

Botflies . . .

Ahh, this looks horribly disgusting and almost makes me sick. But do you know what can make sick a person like me? A person who has seen and touched corpses, huh? Yeah, larvae! The thought of them eating me; too lively imagination... Who said that all that art must do is gladden the eye? Certainly not those who make and watch horror movies... or draw such pictures Art is for arousing emotions... ANY emotions! I respect art that manages to fill me with fear and disgust!

I want to redo the top part so bad. Adult Botflies don't look like the ones on top. I'm glad this aroused those emotions in you (sounds bad). Those were the feelings I was going for. Can you believe there was a colored version of this? It hasn't been finished because I want to redo/revamp the original version. Thank you for commenting~!

The first idea was maggots but then I remembered that maggots only eat dead tissue. Then after some farting around on ED I saw a page on Botflies being pulled out of the skin and wammo~! This was born.

All things maggot-like scare me D: The fact that they don't have a face and move around... I don't know why but... freaks me out, haha.

Oooh... you're on ED?

If they can. Some people just blow up when they get trolled and it ends up making the whole situation worse. I have yet to have someone do that to me but when it happens I'll know what I can do.

Besides as far as I can tell the deviants who are on ED and have huge articles are the ones who seem to troll right back so I doubt I'll need to worry since I'd probably just hide any unnecessarily rude comments.

I like it. The crumbling panels around the top draw attention to the central figure, the idea's neat... You taking crits?

Goodness yes. I could always use some words of wisdom from someone besides my dad. He is a well of knowledge when it comes to art but I'd still like to hear from others as well.

Sad thing is the flies in the picture are the wrong kind. Botflies don't have mouths so after I posted it I felt like a doushebag.

kk. My critique will take the form of "things I would have done differently," and mostly involve composition--because I clearly know what I'm talking about there, right?
Anyway. You've got a line of blank space through the middle of this that isn't really doing anything for you. A bit lower and it could emphasize the shoulders of the figure in the foreground--framing how they're hunched in pain. A bit higher and it would offer a clearer view of the crumbling panels along the top (For this, you could have maybe lined the buildings there along the top; establish a setting for the panels below it as well as the central figure). As it is, it splits the image in two. Hell, maybe that's intentional--a before-and-after thing.
If it wasn't intentional, though, I'd give some thought to the jagged /crumbling panels as more of a framing device. Bring more of them down along the sides, radiating from the center to more firmly establish the hunched figure as the Main Thing Going On. Maybe thicken up the lines around the broken bits so that they mesh more with the jagged action-panels.

Aww. It's still a neat concept.

Yes, actually what you just said is very close to what my dad advised, bring down the panels or adding more so they radiate off of the man and make him the center of the piece. Thank you so much for taking the time to critique. Sound advice to follow. If I still have time to enter it into the contest I'll probably redraw it now that I have more ink and keep your words in mind.

It looks really great so far. I like original ideas and you're right, most of the entries are just based on the game. Which is fine but some originality is always nice to see.

Wow, I hadn't even noticed that. I think I have a subconcious wing fetish or something because I draw a lot of stuff that has to do with them. Bugs, birds, angels and the like.

Edgar reminds me of a mix between a praying mantis and a grasshopper. Is that weird?

no, that totally works. And I'm not just saying that because of the "praying" thing. ;D

...what are Johnny and Jmmy then?

I think Jimmy would be a Daddy Long Leg and as for Johnny, maybe a centipede.
